I want to play in 4K GTD on ignition Poker but it has a three and half hour late registration period. That's just too long for this old man, You start with 10K in chips, with 15 minute levels. My question is, what do you think the minimum amount of blinds I can (should) have before entering the tournament?

Thanks (hope this is in the right place)

I have a real hard time justifying <15 or 20BB unless it's a low buy-in or there's good overlay. Best of luck, and nice sig ;)

15-20 BB is enough for a start, especially since you will have 15 minutes before the rates rise again. Of course, you will start short. But sitting for more than three hours is tiring, and this is just the beginning.

I believe that at the deep stage of the tournament (after 1-2 hours) players play more tightly. So you can easily steal blinds and bluff. I think I would have had 10 blinds to get it back.

Your question is extremely foolish to ask. Late registration always allows you to win less hands and forces you to be behind average the later into it that you join (especially one this late).

You are asking how much to disadvantage yourself... What do you think the answer will be?

How often do you enter a tourney and bust within the first 3 hours? There is so much variance in MTT, you could be better off playing less hands (less variance). If you enter in the beginning there's a very good chance you will either lose all your chips or end up in a similar position anyways, maybe you're just saving time and energy :p Also to consider is that it's a GTD tourney, there may be some overlay. There are times it can be the right move :)

If and when I play MTTs (rarely, I stick to SnG or cash games due to having semi-severe ADD and needing breaks of 15 mins every 1.5-2 hours to stay alert) I last very long by playing a combination of Tight passive, tight aggressive and loose aggressive poker (i play primarily TP to begin with letting people bet into me etc, then become TAG as it hits mid-stage and become LAG/TAG hybrid as we hit mid-late game). I almost never ever bubble unless I get ridiculous busts like I had 5 full 10s fullhouse, guy has a jack and jack shows on river with us both all-in at turn. Cards were something like J 10 5 10 J or maybe the jack was the turn, I cant remember exactly how it went down. Anyway it takes that level of cooler to get me out of a MTT because I play very survivalist and am good at it.
