The mini mini re-raise.

How do u feel about this mini re-raise at the micro levels? eg: u raise to 90, u get re-raised to 150. Is it a weak re-raise to find out where he is? Is he doin this weak re-raise with AA to try build up a pot?
To tell u the truth i hate it. I think that if ur gonna re-raise sum1 is should b doubled. eg: u raise to 90, he has to re-raise u 2 180.
What are ur thoughts about this mini mini re-raise?

imo raising from 90 to 180 is a 'min' raise.

Alot of the time the 'min raise' is AA or KK but I'm happy to call being priced in and bust them (and ALOT of the time they're doing the 'min' raise from SB or BB.. ha ha ha).
Depending upon stacksizes, etc. (but if you're generally fairly deep), you'd typically want to raise to 3.5x villain's raise.. (ie. villain - 90.. then raise to ~310).
I like minraise.... right along there with HighBlindLimers.
How bout the guy who minraises a few limpers while in the blinds.. pricing the entire table in... I love it!

LOL it's so stupid when most of the table will limp in, then the button,SB or BB will minraise. it's so stupid!! What are they tryin to do? build up a big pot with a crap hand to try hit big? or minraise with AA wantin more money but doesnt wanna scare ppl off. Every1 is callin who limped jus hopin to catch the flop. It's stupid i tell ya.

There are times where a min reraise is usefull

It's hard for an opponent to fold to and doubles the bet sizing on future rounds.

Can be good to min raise a flop bet with a good hand as its an easy way to get more money into the pot against a villian who often goes to showdown unless the betting gets very large on the river.

Its can also be used defensively against players who c-bet and barrell too much.

The min raise seems too cheap for them to fold with say overcards, they barrell again on the turn but sudenly give up on the river because the pot size has suddenly got much bigger than they expected.

It has its uses, but is usually just a bad player with a big hand.

I agree on with the above in saying that a mini-reraise would serve 3 purposes.

1. To let others know that you have a good hand. Thus causing reasonable doubt in other players. I think it is an obvious "tell" though.
2. To build up the pot.
3. It could be a bluff too - making people suspect that he has a hand.
4. He might not think the initial raise was not enough to warrant people folding and wanted to make sure people would fold to give him better odds of winning.

hmm i understand that the minraise is a usefull weapon. But shuddnt the minraise be twice the bet? When i play live in my local casino im told that the minraise would b doubled the bet eg: someone bets 90, the minraise will have to b 180.

Min re-raises u will see mostly with tight players. I would call it to see the flop and if i hit a flush, straight or trips i continue calling his raises....
If flops gets u nothing, and he min raises again, then i fold !!!

That dosent happen at all.

The minimum raise (min raise) is twice the previous raise.

So for the first raise it is twice the first bet.

However should there be a third or fourth bet then its worth remembering that the min raise size is twice the previous raise. This is not the same as twice the amount put into the pot by the previous player because some of that money was just calling the previous bet.

If i got AA or KK, i am willing to see he wants to go all-in , most will call .
