Seems when I get early chips stacks, I have a hard time staying aggressive and building my pot as we go. Usually by the time we make it to the payouts , I will be sitting in a position where all I can do is go all in instead of be able to actually play the hand without the all in move. Anyone have any tips or strategies on ways I can stay in the game with aggression in middle stages of a tourney to be able to keep building my stack size? Thank you to anyone for any ideas. I am open to hear what some people have to say bout when they are in this same position. Good luck at the tables!

hello mate , the strategy is simple if ur below 16-20 big blinds u have to be in push/fold stage .At middle stage play u have to b aggressive in ur approach as the blinds will be high and antes will be there and they will eat ur stack in no time ,
so i suggest u to do following ..
1.Check ur table dynamics, how many agro player are there, how many tight ,how they play ,what are there bet structure etc
2.blind steal as mutch as u can
3.target tight player ,dont go up against loose player who can call u with any hand ,if trying to go against them u must have very strong hand
4.if the table is tight go loose and if they are loose be tight
5.as u get below 18 big blind u should shove with any gud cards, speculative hands

and have patient if u cant do following and w8 for big pair and good cards to shove

when i get card dead in a tourney i usually open raise/cbet any 2 in position while i still have a good stack, and hope for the opposition to fold, or make a huge allin bluff on scary boards if u know your opponents range.
anyway you should know when you are running good/bad in a mtt and play accordingly. dont wait for fancy hands/action when you are running bad because you are not likely to get that unless you are about to stack off.

if your not getting the cards Its just a case of getting your hands wet and basically fighting for pots you can either shove and hope to win a few pots or double up,
if your playing in a turbo (turbos becomes push or fold more of a gamble)

you get to play post flop alot more in the middle stages of a standard MTT and as long as your image is solid and your betting patternns are in sync with the hand your in you can rep boards, as well as having more time to wait for hands.

CSI / BB levels are your indicators as to how you need to be playing..
if you can steal 1 to 2 blinds an orbit this keeps you alive until you get a spot
sometimes you cant really force a big stack its more of a case of staying in it until the opportunity comes

pick your spots wisely, you need not just to play the cards at this stage but also your opponent to build a big stack, like others have said 20bb just play a shove/reshove game but otherwise target specific opponents you think are weak, build a reputation for yourself at the table and exploit your image by doing the opposite of what your opponents expect

I think u need to develop ur reading skills...I say that because in the initial stages of the game is the platform to rule the middle stages and the final stages of the game... How well u have a read on ur fellow players makes a great part in how u do in ur middle and final stages. Also shifting the gears of your play according to different stages of the game and the size of your stack is the key...For that read books, watch replays of other good players and also experiment with your play...Good luck finding ur advanced game !!!

once you build up a big stack early....think of it as a free way to experiment with your game. don't be afraid to use your chips as weapons.

if somebody plays back at you really strongly, fold.
if somebody is checking to you, or seems weak in any way, raise them out.

it's a gift to get chips early, you don't want to squander it.

the 2 main ways to squander it are:

#1 tighten up and try to coast into the money, or wait to get lucky
#2 recklessly call all-ins

so basically, don't call all-ins unless you've got it. but don't be afraid to play pots, especially against weakish players, especially if you have position. if you smell weakness fire off a pot sized bet. that amount of chips will mean a lot more to your opponent than it does to you so they'll only call you when they've got it. then....don't make hero calls after they've shown you they are strong.

MTTs = moving tables a lot so you can't rely on that in the later stages.

Of course you can, you just have to read them quicker! At first I used to think like you, but know I know for a fact that it is not true. If you focus on the game, you'll get reads!
My 2 cents it that when the BB are getting bigger and the antes are in, try to steal as many times as possible! And shove from the UTG with K8+. It's a bit crazy and scary, but it works! :)

It slows down for everyone once all the maniacs and donks have busted. Lots of good advice in this string. Take some time to review the mtt play of the top pros and never give up,,,note Leo McClean at London EPT play a brilliant short stack for a full day and still came 3rd.

I always play aggressive since the start of the MTT. The big difference is that i don´t limp too often than i do at early stages. I chose very, very careful my spots and steal only the pots that is worth. The small pots with no draws i just fold them and move on. It´s important know when to fold or it will cost you a lot of chips.

Not much you can really do when you go card dead in the mid stages of a tournament. Occasionally I like to broaden my opening ranging and trying to steal the blinds at least once per 2 orbits. Just min raise like 60% of your range in mid-late position and hope to take the blinds down. But if you do end up getting down to 16-20 big blinds, you really have to know your push/fold game and it almost help to have a good re-steal range (blinds vs button). I would rather risk QJ all in vs button raise at this point in the tournament then to make it top 20 with 2 bbs lol. Need to get that double up, or bust out and save yourself some time

well it actually depends on the tournaments structure. if you are playing a turbo tournament, the blinds are going to be much higher than normal or slow mtt. so in the middle stage is very important to grow your stack because the blinds are going to eat all your chips inmediatly, so if you have a small stack your best choice would be to risk your stack with a good hand. also position is very important because you can try to steal blinds with average hands in late positions. if you have a big stack you can afford to play more aggresive, and a bigger range, however you should be aware of the small stacks, who will risk their chips with a good hands.

It is necessary to use the information on the players. And depending on the playing style of opponents, put pressure on them stack. Use big raise to steal the blinds. Do provocative bet with the nuts, etc.
