In my brief tourney play I have noticed that I am having trouble with the middle of the tourneys. My cash game experience has made me a decent early rounds player but when 1/2 the field has been eliminated I am having trouble winning hands. I'm not scared to re-raise or call large bets pre-flop if I have a good hand. The problem is that I want to be in position and my Co and button hands have sucked. I seem to end up getting sandwiched between two players and not getting favorable flops and have to fold. I am reluctant to go all in with AJo out of position. My stack slowly dwindles due to blinds, antes and folds so that I get into a bad position chip wise and have to shove with 87s or A7o. How can I chip manage my middle game?

Look to steal antes often, try and look for good spots for a re-steal when you're in the blinds. Certain spots just go and go or stop and go. Bear in mind when thinking what to bet we're only likely to be playing two streets (If you count pre-flop as a street, not really sure about that) in a hand if stacks dictate so. Something that I've seen a few cash game players get to grips with. Remember that sometimes we have to steal with average cards so we have decent FE. Post HH as its easier to comment on them, roughly what M are we talking about?

good advice above. don't look to play too many flops. steal in late positions and resteal over late-position raisers.

This is the time to make some moves but do it wisely and don't wait to late cause if u do you wont be a threat to anyone. Steal and re-steal should be ur main focus as stated above. Look to double up but don't try and be a hero save that for the FT. GL

Great advice. Sometimes when you are running really cold you just have to shove with anything and hop,but generally follow the sage advice of the previous posters.

My "M" is around 10 and shrinking by this time (I think) that's going from 100/200 no ante to 250/500BB and 100 antes (not sure how to count antes in M). Like I was saying VERY limited experience, I do steal but found that I was getting re-raised by a player behind and the original raiser calls or raises. So one situation I had was player in front raised and in MP with 3's I re-raised 3x his raise, then had CO or button reraise and one of the blinds called as well as the original raiser! so had to fold and lost $1,000 or so.

It just seems tourny's are so coin flip, just when I start to get a read on the players I'm moved to another table. I hate shipping with A7o but it seems that I will have to be much more aggressive in the middle part to get to the final tables.

33 -- resteal from blinds but otherwise fold.

33 in mp with not a great stack we really don't want to raise/fold. With an M of 10 I'm pretty much shove/fold. being first into a pot>being second in, guy raises from mp presuming he isn't a bad player we probably have no FE and we still have people to act behind.

Losing with the best hand is all we can hope for. I'm moe pissed where I've done something ridiculous and gone out.

I played many good hands to find them often beat by rivers, but i guess it would seem that all good hands aren't meant to win! Just got to feel your cards and understand the players your playing with by betting patterns and of course the donk's. just keep poised is all. theres no such thing as a perfect day everyday!
