Lately, i have been finding myself very short when i am near the money bubble. Primary reason i find for this could be my tight strategy that I employ in the early stages and my unwillingness to open more in middle stages to build a stack. I would like to know the strategies people employ in middle stages when the typical stack is 20-40 BB .

You identified your leaks. Work on it.

Typically though, I tend to add steals in my game in the mid-stages. Loosen my range a bit (from the earlier stage) and adjust my bet sizing accordingly.

Around that stack range, you have to add 3-bet fold range and re-steal range when you're more short in your game plan.

1. Steal blinds more from BTN, HJ, and CO.

2. Re-steal blinds more. If BTN, HJ, CO is raising your blinds a lot, play back at them.

3. Punish limped pots and pick up dead money in position.

4. Go for squeeze plays.

5. Don't be afraid to play for stacks 15-25+ BBs deep in spots where you are 40/60-60/40, 50/50.

Yes this happens to me too quite a bit. Good post! :) When approaching the money I get more cautious and sometimes the players dropping out can be slower than anticipated and then I end up short stacked. Good advice here, I'll have to accept more risk in mid stages and not tighten up.
