Hey guys and gals, new to the site.

I play low stakes tourneys alot on 888 and ventured to pokerstars more recently.
I generally run up a nice stack in these games early around chip lead or top 10 but find that I struggle when its mid game and theres shove all fold stacks behind me to keep chipping up, generally ill hafto fold hands id play like suited connecters because if they shove id most likely loose a big portion of my stack.

I end up bubbling because of this.
Any advice on this stage would be great :)

tough question

Ive analysed top performing players in bubble tourns.

The way I see it is you can play to the book and always end up just making the bubble so depending on the size of the tournament that could be a long time for not much of a return.

Now some of the players ive seen and been heads up with they make some very good money but their actual itm is not so high however their roi is very high.

So they tend to risk more when closing in on the bubble so call those hands you tend not to.

This way they may crash out but when they hit through they end up past the bubble with a much larger stack so more likely to make it nearer the final table.

It really depends what you are playing for.

If its purely technical then you would carry on playing reasonably safe until past the bubble.

But you prob wont see many final tables this way.

Sounds like your not playing aggressively enough just before and during the bubble. If you have a nice stack moving into the bubble then you need to find players to pick on and keep chipping up, but also not putting your tournament life to risk. I am looking for villians with medium size chip stack who have alot to lose and just hoping to pop the bubble.

Find some oppenents to pick on and loosen up your range a bit. Should help you get into the money and set yourself up for the final table.

These guys are right. You have to open up your game and take some shots and picking up some chips. Ive won tournaments because I was aggressive in building a stack on the bubble, and I would have never won unless I did this.

Make some plays from late position on the blinds and maybe play back at the button.

Yeah, what others have said sounds pretty much right to me. Don't let the bubble stop you being aggressive when you need to, but don't go hog-wild either.

I have a friend who use his time bank, just to hold-up the game as much as possible, waiting for ITM. Mostly when he's low stakes (5-10bb). What's the point? Just get ITM, but absolutelly last position? Don't like it! :D
I mean, the goal is getting to Final Table, not ITM. So play for it! You may take some bad beats (who haven't), but in long term will be a positive balance! Try studying ICM (push/fold) ranges and positions. It's basic applied math.

Don't feel bad, the mid-late game of the MTT (the bubble) is in my opinion the most crucial stage where you have to"make or break it".
You should try to remain aggressive, stealing blinds, 3betting people that are opening wide etc all the while looking for spots to stack off with people that are shoving light e.g. short stack.

Keep an eye on stack sizes constantly (yours, opponents on and off the table i.e. chip leader) and be pro-active about building your stack by realising that most people just want to jump up one extra pay bracket where-as you want to WIN.

Last thing which applies to late stage of MTT, there are going to be spots where you should definitely be folding reasonable holdings pre-flop to avoid flipping and there are going to be spots where you should be calling shoves with ace-rag and flipping for a double up. I know it's confusing but the more you understand the theoretically correct short sack plays (google ICM) the easier you will see the profitable spots.

Hope this helps!

Totally agree!

I like the Johnathan Little videos (YouTube), including the ICM ones. They are easy to follow and straight to the point.
You can also study push/fold using his App 'FloatTheTurn'. It's based on ICM and cover stakes amounts, positions and odds. Pretty simple to use in spare time :)

I think it makes sense what you're saying. But try to look at the situation from different angles.
