I want to ask for strategy advice on a strange tournament I play often.

It costs between 50 cents and $5 to enter. You get 1500 chips with blinds starting at 5/10 and increasing every 12 minutes. You can rebuy right away to give yourself 3000 chips. Any time within the first hour that you drop down to 1500 chips or lower, you can rebuy once; and if you drop down to 0, you can double rebuy to get 3000 chips in one shot. After the first hour you can't rebuy any more, but during the break you can add on 2000 chips for one buyin or 4000 chips for two buyins.

This tournament usually has a guarantee that it routinely exceeds because of all the rebuys and addons. I've seen it played a dozen different ways. At one extreme are the players who don't rebuy or add on at all and just look to maximize profit with a basic 1500 chip stack. At the other extreme are the players who go all in with marginal hands and always double rebuy and count on finishing high up the ladder in order to compensate for all the money they've spent.

If you were playing this kind of tournament, how would you play it?

When I first started playing online MTTs I considered rebuys as total donkfests but only because I wasn't familiar with how to play them. After reading over some different articles & then watching one rebuy training vid. in particular (it was an $8rebuy with 4 parts to it) I got a much better understanding of what rebuy tourneys are all about.
Basically.. in a nutshell >>> rebuy tournaments are deepstacked tourneys that start once the rebuy period & add-on are completed. During the rebuy we want to acquire a decent-sized stack (how we do that depends on the table we're on).
not sure if this helps

I personally am not a fan of playing in these types of tourneys, they bring alot of those "bingo" players who will just keep going all in until they tripple up... not to mention it takes an hour in most of these games for the rebuys to stop n then the game seriously starts and people take it seriously, but until then it is a partial donkfest

This ^ is exactly what I thought when I was first starting out until I discovered what they were really all about. Perhaps interesting to note that ALOT of the MTT regs. will also play low buyin rebuys as a way to add to the bankroll (ie. I know one guy with profits over $240k on Fulltilt who will still add in a bunch of low buyin rebuys on his schedule, especially when the bankroll is dropping.... must be worth it??)

for these low limit rebuys alaot of people will be playing a crazy amount of hands, i suggestt rying to chip flood, which means have an arsenal of money in your bankrool before playing becasue you are going to need it, but hwen you have the nuts expect to triple up when you get pushed all in preflop
