Is it good to make money from heads up? will it prove you are a good poker player or just lucky?

Im good at mtt's and stt's but they take too long + heads up is a bit more exciting.

Should i play some cash games aswell apart from only playing HU?

Standard thinking is play only one form of poker until you've "mastered it".... Whatever THAT means. IRL some people probably can and do only play one form of poker while others need a little variety to maintain their interest-level in the game. Do whatever works for you and what keeps you playing.

I would advise being a BR nit, though, when playing outside of your normal format. You don't want to risk going busto while playing a game that is not your best.

I've been debating playing some HU SnGs as well, but haven't made the leap yet. I would say they CAN be pretty profitable, but also that they WILL be highly swingy. So, if you go this route, expect huge BR swings.

I wouldn't play cash games as well. I've tried playing cash and HU simulataenously and it turns you into a hyper lag.
If you can win at HU it will prove you are a good player.

Variance ****s a lot in heads up, you can play better than the villain and lose a few or more just because he got the right card even if you were slightly ahead.

But you really have to be able yto read an opponent's hand before going this route.
You play more with that than with your own cards. Less players, bigger hand range

with heads up you can build some money rlly fast, bu talso u can destory your bank roll even faster... Personally i do not advise you to play heads up if u good at mtt and sng, keep up to them...

Go to heads up when u see you are becoming rlly good and just few games for tranning...

I've tried HU SNGs before and smashed them for the first while. Thought it was a goldmine but I soon started to get destroyed by the regs. If you can find really bad players you can win lots of $ but if not it is hard to earn anything. If you are good at SNGs/MTTs stick to them imo.

What stakes were you playing where the good regs destroyed you?

yesterday i've decided to spare $10 out of my bankroll for heads up, started off with the 1.50$ and moved up 1 level after i won each HU game. Got to the 60$ game and luckily won when a guy went all in 1st hand with 62 off and i had j10s which got my br to over $200.

I decided that the day went well so i will just stop for today. I have that problem that i love gambling and couldnt resist having more and more money so after 5 minutes i came back for the $200 game and unfortunately for me, i faced a pokerstars pro which actually got lucky when he called my shove with 33 vs my QQ and he hit a set...

I was left with around 10$ so i decided to play the 25NL and i realised that HU isnt a good idea since when i came back to cash games i played exactly like in the HU - raise with any 2 cards.

Anyway, i lost the money in a stupid way so i decided to restrict my deposits and to learn a bit more for a couple of months.

How do i stop having the gamblers rush? because it's the only problem i have since i can be a TAG player for an hour or 2 but then i start feeling the need to get some action

Which pro did you play?

Also getting it in with JTs first hand against unknown isn't going to be profitable.

I played mostly turbos. Was playing $7s at first and they were pretty soft. The $15s were tough and the $30s were as high as I went but I was under-rolled so didn't play many. Don't remember exactly but I did better at the $30s than the $15s. Was on a massive heater when I started. It turned out that I wasn't as good as I thought and I don't think I played as well as I had been either.

@David: JTs all in first hand is a bit mental lol. I found that I played much looser in tourneys too after playing HU. Nice run up to the $200 but moving up stakes after each win is never going to turn out well. Try some shootouts at lower stakes instead. I used to move up in stakes if I lost a few to try win it back. That's part of the reason I gave up playing HU.

Anyone ever play the HU shootout tourneys? I used to do pretty well at the $10.50 KO ones at :15 past the hour on PS. $5 for each game you win so even if you don't cash you can still cover your buyin or make a small profit.

and what if the donk turns over K5o? Absolutely awful reasoning.

Who is the pro you played?

You are the donk for moving up after every game.

Ridic lucky to make it to the $200 game.

Thanks to all the posters in this thread. It has told me one thing, HU is not for me.
