I have been playing the $25 guaranteed on demand tournaments. The first few I did well, made a couple final tables and a money finish. Here lately I have been making around the top 30 out of 100-150 entrants. Could this just be variance? Or was it probably just a lucky streak I hit?

To add insult to injury my pocket kings got busted by pocket 2's. We were both all-in pre flop lol

My Pocket Kings got busted by pocket Aces in a live tournament. That things happens in real live too. Not only on the internet games. Nowadays i play them more carefully preflop.

I think we all go through ups and downs. All you can do is keep playing the way you have been, and you will get to the FT a lot more. Believing in yourself will take you a long ways. Don't let any negative thoughts stay in you mind long. This may seem stupid to you, but when I'm playing I talk to myself with nothing but positive things. I have sit for most of the first hour card dead, and I just keep telling myself that the cards will change and I will start catching some cards I can play. I think the worst thing you can do is try and make something happen by guessing what cards to play and that will hit the board. You may not do that but I have and I probably will do it many more times. GL to you

Yea that makes a lot of sense. Guess I'm gonna have to take my slump as a learning experience. I'm definitely going to try to stay positive. I'll let you know when I start taking down some tournaments. Thanks for the words of wisdom

MTT are hard to win consistently. But remember, someone somewhere wins every time and sometimes, the winner is you.

If in several tournaments in a row at you the positive result, means nothing. It was perhaps lucky. it is impossible to judge by several tournaments because one of bases of poker is a distance. What you will play more tournaments, it will be clear you just the lucky or really skill player

You have to be consistent, winning or losing, that's the key. You shouldn't let yourself go for a bunch of good results, variance will bounce back, at some point and you need to be prepared.

there is going to be a lot of variance in a tourney that size, wouldnt read much into the results until you have a couple hundred games

I believe that only with a greater amount of played Mtt you can have a view if it was luck or not, and also works the other way, sometimes the person plays a few tournaments and lose and think no good for poker, which is not always it is true.

Tourney game has high variance, so you can expect many bad beats. Going all-in is in many situations the correct call so yeah you need plain luck to go deep in a tourney.

What I have realized is I'm still learning. I try not to go with one set strategy, and rather try to combat my opponents based on their play. Playing online it's somewhat difficult to try and calculate the odds of a few possibilities based on the short amount of time to make decision, even in the normal speed games. I'll get back to the FT shortly, I was just frustrated with my play this weekend. I realized one of my mistakes was trying to take way too big of shots at my opponents. From here on out I just need to tell myself I can't win this tournament in one hand, but I sure as hell could lose it

I appreciate everyone's input. Last night I only had time for one game after doing some chores around the house. I placed 12th out of 721, it's not a final table or in the money, but I was able to play/last longer by staying away from marginal situations, and not trying to force things. My slump over the weekend was a huge learning curve for my game

Alright, here's the deal, Steve. You're not going to win every tourney, make the final table, or even cash no matter how good you are. Sometimes the cards just don't cooperate. Bad players get lucky. Sometimes good players do too.

I used to play the freerolls on UB back in the day. They usually averaged about 3500 players, and only the top 18 got paid. I once went a whole week without cashing in one. I was like "WTF is going on?" I was used to cashing and even final tabling those tournaments at least once every couple of days. It gave me a lot of experience and helped me develop confidence in my game to the point where I feel like winning is not a matter of getting lucky, it's a matter of not getting unlucky.

When I play a hand a certain way there is usually some kind of reasoning for it. Still, there are times when I have to wonder if I could have played a hand differently or better or not at all. If you ever have those kind of questions you can come right here and we will all be very happy to shred you. Just kidding. Most people around here a pretty good with the advice.

Remember winning isn't question of getting lucky. It's a matter of playing good and not getting unlucky. Now get out there and make me proud!
