Hi all this is my frirst post i was just wondering if anyone on here makes a living from grinding large amounts of double your money sngs. I recently lost my job and was considering giving this a go my record in them is pritty good and although the ROI in them is low with a good rakeback deal i think i could make a reasonable living.
Anyone already doing this with any advice would be apriciated.
Also any tips on the best simple poker tracker just for sngs and the odd mtt very basic and reasonably priced.
Any other good advice would be greatly recieved cheers.:D

Unless you can play on a large site, youre going to be sitting there all day to get a good volume of DONs on Merge. Id say anyone making a living playing online in the US plays high limit cash games.

Hi mate im not based in the US i just use black chip as i like it any suggestions on where the best trafic is in dym sngs. prefrerable a site where somewhere in the range of 45% rakeback is available as i intend to just let my bankroll grow and use the rakeback to live off.
Was hoping i could rake $6000 a month giving me $2700 salary so to speak.

you'll never get enough traffic on merge to make that much profit with DON's. @ the last poster, i think stars discontinued DON's but i could be wrong, i don't play there.

if your goal is $2700/month then i would seriously think about studying cash games and forget about DON sng's. ring games are the only structure on merge (imo) that these numbers could be obtained.

well was aiming at playing mostly $54 dym tourneys, would need to play 50 per day to rake $200 a day on average hitting the $6000 a month. Do you think this is probably not possible on merge? The main reason ive not bothered with pokerstars is i dont really understand the vip/rakeback scheme seems you need to rake absolutly insane money every month in order to hit the decent rakeback.

I can play cash games competently usualy i play omaha hi/lo as i find ive more of an edge in that. I did want to try to stick to the dym sngs as the variance is far lower so ill have a much more stable bankroll.

I doubt merge gets 50 a day at that limit.

Until US regulation of poker happens Id say the former SNG grinder has no chance of living that way anymore. If you are looking to make a living Id say youre going to be at the cash tables and trying to bink a few big tournaments once in a while.

Have you played enough $54 games to have a reasonable expectation of at least breaking even? And if you've thought this through and done some due diligence, shouldn't you already know if there are 50+ per day at that level on Merge?

And how many are you thinking of playing at a time? Even if Merge has 50+ per day, are there enough running simultaneously?

arj thanks for the post, I am relitivly new to the merge network but i like the software at the moment ive only played 450 games on there to an average stake of $44 getting an ROI of 3%. I have however played over 4000 games on other sites stakes ranging from $11-$109 and have a reasonable ROI of 5% in them. It has been mostly for money on the side but I am now considering taking it seriously as im struggling to find another job. I will usally play between 4-8 tables at a time im comfortable with.

I just don't htink there's enough demand for these tournaments for you to be succesful making that much doing it. They're very profitable but The variance and lack of tournaments is too large

I can see that i might struggle with the ammount of tournements these days, but i cant see a problem with reguards to variance as to me this is lower in this form of poker than in any other.

If you are rolled for it just give it a trial for a week or so. TBH with you, though, if you are even considering this you should have all the information you need to hand.

Think ill give it a go on trial for few weeks, as long as i have 15 buy-ins min for the level im going for i feel this is suficient as i think the longest losing streak ive been on over a few 1000 tables is 6.

thanks ezek, i had a read through that seems to be how most people think the best way to play is. I tend to disagree tho i find the table is so tight in the early stages you can exploit that and steal left right and centre without putting yourself at risk mostly targeting the reg tight players and usually then your safe by the time it gets to the end game and everyone is playing push nd fold. that tends to be my strategy anyway

betfair and Bwin are the biggest two I think. The rb/sign up bonuses are pretty standard across the network iirc.

Good luck to you, seems like it will be rough finding that many games but I hope you find them.

have you given any thought to playing multiple sites? if you could find enough sites that offer $30+buy-in DON's then you could possibly run 50+ in a day.
just a thought.

edit: nvm, just realized you live in the US of friggin A...
