Stay out of rebuys unless you're the real deal.

The only thing that matters is bankroll (BR) management, which means: NEVER WASTE ALL YOUR MONEY ON A SINGLE BULLET. What to take into consideration about the bankroll management?

1 - Format. Is it a Single Table Tournament (STTs) or Multi Table Tournaments (MTTs)? On STTs, you can be a bit more loose with your bankroll, allowing yourself to buy in minimum from 1/50 (if a high speed STT) to 1/30 (if a lower speed MTT) of your Bankroll. On the other hand, MTTs are much more difficult to cash and you'll only see major profit unless you make deep runs, which doesn't only need a huge amount of time invested, but also a sizeable amount of skill and luck. More on item 2.

2 - Variance. Is it a high variance MTT (like turbos and super turbos) or a low variance MTT (like regular paced, deep stack tournament)? If it's a high variance MTT you should do a more strict bankroll management, like only playing tournaments of 0.75% or 0.5% of your total bankroll (in your case, from 15 to 25 cents buy in turbos or super turbos). If it's a slower MTT or a deep stacked MTT, you can be less strict with BR management, for example, a tournament that you start with 5000 chips (250x the big blinds) and blinds jumping every ten minutes. In these low variance, regular paced, deep stacked tournaments, you can play a less timid BR management, ranging the buy ins in 1.5-2% your BR, which in your case would be 60 cents buy in.

If you play in a 10$ buy in MTT, with your BR, if you are a really good player, and runs super good, maybe you'll survive ten MTTs before going broke.

3 - Your skill level vs the field. You should tighten your Bankroll Management if you think you don't have skill edge against the oposition.

Suggestion of games: 1$ Single Table Tournaments if you feel you can beat the field consistently (nice level of skill, experience and ICM knowledge needed), or 50c STTs for a more conservative approach. Will depend of your experience.

I would play the lowest buy ins that I could with your BR. Or do you want to lose it all on one tourny when you could play 10 and try building you BR up?

I don't rebuy. My best luck with about $30 has been sit n go touneys I am familiar with and tend to win at least more than half of the time.

Good luck.

The general rule of thumb is never to invest more than 10% of your bankroll in one tourney. Therefore, given your BR you should not be going above a $3 buy-in. Stick with STTs (assuming you continue to do well in these) until you build up your bankroll a bit more, then maybe go for up to a $5 MTT but keep an eye on whether there are rebuys/addons...that can dramatically increase the $ you need to play that particular tourney. bbiase makes some good points about variance as well. Even the pros regularly bust out of MTTs without cashing, so you need a pretty deep bankroll to ride out the variance and make a profit (along with skill and luck!). Gl!
