Tournaments are usually long and the variance involved were higher when compared to cash game and sng.

Do you believe we need luck to win a tournament?

Yes, I do believe that, but I think people give too much credit for the luck and not enough for the skill.
For instance, Kanit won all those high rollers, some weeks ago he won the Sunday Millions and yesterday he became 2nd in Monte Carlo. I don't believe you can say he just got lucky in all of them to have such a result. Skill is a big factor there.
On the other side, if you look at the low stakes or freerolls, I think luck has a bigger impact. It becomes more hard to read your opponents because they sometimes don't even have a clue themselves of what they are doing. Also, if you try to tell a story to them, without them under standing your language, it is purposeless to even try it.

Luck is basically having odds in your favor. Some hands you have to rely on luck for example in a coinflip or getting a monster on the river with 5-15% chance. Like Abramo said, if you win consistently, its more of skill than just pure luck.

More skill than luck, you still need to play your A game for 4-12 hours in order to reach the final table. Do some players get it in bad and win putting them in good position to win yes this happens, but you can't depend on this. Luck wins short term skill wins in the long run and that's what we want.

You need absolutely the same luck in cash and in SnG. You can imagine that the tournaments are some 9-max SnG or cash-sessions in a row. And you must be in profit in every game. And you win either zero (more often), or a big prize at once.

You need to not focus on the 'luck' aspect as you cannot control this and concentrate on the variables you can control like your play.

You need luck to win a specific tourney.
However how you perform in the long run is skill.

Luck is a factor in all poker. How much skill is involved at lower buy-ins and freerolls? Much less than in higher buy-in tourneys. As Phil Hellmuth used to say, If it wasn't for luck, he would win every hand.

If you will constantly interfere with the failure, you will not win the tournament. Luck is also needed. Even a little bit.

well luck is needed but its more about skills, some players used to play in tournaments and most of the times they get paid or being on the final table they are not just lucky they are good players the follow some strategy

Luck is irrelevant. Luck is a part of anything. New artists don't get a number 1 album without a bit of luck do they consider this into their actions no.

Luck is a part of everyday life not just poker, you can't control luck so there isn't any point thinkin if I was lucky. You can do better with skill hence all the win in poker players who don't depend on luck.

Yes, I do think that we need some luck to win some tournaments, but I think that it's just a little part of the game. If we needed just luck to win these tournaments we would not see the same players at the final tables at big live tournaments bro.

Maybe so, but people give to much credit for the luck in most of the things in life. If they see someone else who is very successful at something they say "oh, he is so lucky", without acknowledging the fact that that person probably worked very hard for it.
If they, themselves, fail at something they say, "ah, I got bad luck" as an excuse. Sometimes it might be the unlucky factor, but the majority of the times people will not see their own lack of perseverance, motivation or hard work.
A simple example I heard a lot is that during some exam they say that they got unlucky with the questions, while actually they did not study everything well enough.
That's why I used to say when people would wish me good luck: "luck is not a factor".

Now in poker of course a higher amount of luck is in play, but still, long term winners are just good. Period.

I dont believe in luck. Maybe math can be wrong in some cases, but not in overall. I believe in hardwork, study and focus. If you do that, results will come. If they did not come yet, you have to do MORE! :)

You need a little bit of luck, to win a coinflip etc.
And since the blinds go pretty fast sometimes, you will just need some luck with your cards, otherwise the blinds will kill you.

Yes you need luck to win some coin flips, you also need not to have bad luck that looks like good luck - eg I was deep in to a tourney and got KK. I thought that's great luck, this hand can take me from middle of pack to top end! Someone raised big pre flop and I couldn't fold KK, calling would have pot committed me so I decided to go all in. They called showed AA and that was that. So you need to not have things like that happen. Being dealt KK deep in a tourney when someone else has AA is I think one of the worst things that can happen to you. I'm sure there are other bad things as well but that's got to be one of the worst. And I'm not sure what else I could have done. I couldn't fold KK could I?

this is not true

You will undoubtedly need some luck to win any tourney, its super rare that someone doesnt get lucky at least once when winning one, you however do not need all that much luck to be a winner in a cash game - you can avoid tricky spots if you wish and still profit - in tourney you must eventually call some hands you dont want to

lucky if you have a large impact on the game rather than say no luck but if you want to rely on luck throughout the tournament do not think you win or come into itm

Luck is a much bigger factor in tournaments than in cash games. So many players talk about skill, but how many very skillful pros have made the final tables of either WPT or wsop Main Event multiple times? And check out the number of multiple winners in the past 5 years. It takes skill to survive in these tourneys, but luck is such a big factor now strictly because of the massive sizes of the fields. The most skillful poker player in the world cannot change the outcome of a pre-flop all in with pocket Aces against 2 7 off if the community cards are 3 2's, K Q. And in a tournament, unless it has multiple rebuys, you are done.
