Anyone have any advice on calling for this hands? I notice it often. I typically watch to see if there's big stacks on the last 3 positions if I'm short stacked and the blinds are heavy,,,but otherwise I normally call. Being under the gun, though, chances are very high for raise pre-flop.

How strong of a pre-flop raise does it take for you to fold these hands?

when i play DEEP stacked poker i raise with suited connectors from EP to balance my opening range.. apart from that. id advise you dont limp with them... its a massive leak unless your very confident of outplaying your opponants postflop.

Usually a fold. You don't get the implied odds for this very often. Plus, open limping sucks.

suited connectors are over rated in my opinion. it seems like i never hit a flop with them. i'd say i enter a pot with low connectors maybe 20% of the time, and always when i'm in late position. i prefer to play these against a deep stack, so if i hit the flop big i can get paid off. as far as small pocket pairs, i always try to see a flop with them, although i won't take much heat to do so.

Well I usually try not to limp in most situations and with small suited connectors UTG its an instant fold. Its not worth it.

IF you are gonna play em, you want to play em like they are Aces. And as you can imagine, this can get very expensive. So early in a tourney I would counsel NOT even thinking about playing those cards.

Later in a tourney, hopefully you have a bigger relative stack, you can start getting a bit adventurous with speculative hands, but only after you have some idea of the players at your table and their abilities.

Personally I like pairs UTG and like to limp in and hope to flop set. Then the trap is ON!!!!

I feel like it's really obvious to most players what you're doing in this spot, and your range is really narrow.

most people who flop a set with a small pocket pair make it pretty obvious.....they go crazy with the check raise all in.....if you're gonna play small pocket pairs out of position against pre flop raises, then you have to know how to play them when you flop a set. shoving all in -- or check raising all in when someone puts in a c-bet -- isn't going to win you a big enough pot to make up for all the times you limped and failed to catch. of course, if you're lucky you'll be against someone who refuses to fold pocket aces no matter what's on the board. some people, you can show them your 3 5s and they still push their whole stack in and pray for an ace.....

I think you need to be ALOT more specific with your question.... ie. is this in relation to tournament play (if so... alot more info. needed too).. or cash game play. Poker isn't a black&white game where one can obtain a simple, straight-forward answer for something.... it is always situational - depends upon many factors.
ie. SC's (suited connectors) in MTT play, I might be raising 2.4x in MP, during mid-levels, I might be calling an EP rs & MP call in LP, or even in blinds. I might be shoving it allin over a CO blind stealer in LateLevels while sitting on a resteal stack of ~16bb's. I might open-shove otb w 11bb's..... I might be calling behind 4limpers on a loose passive fr cash table. In other words... "It Depends"

SORRY!!!! Didn't even see/read the last part of your thread title.. "UTG".

Similiar for UTG though... "It Depends".
Tournament Play
I'm likely to fold all Low pp's UTG in early levels (on tables with good players). Same goes for SC's.
