these tourneys are so crazy, people who play low buy in tourneys seem to play any 2 hands all in, i really am not sure if there is much value in these low buy in tourneys, im talking the very low buy in, the 5-10 dollar ones have much better players than 0-5 dollar tourneys, anyways its not fun playing when you know your dominant hand will get sucked out by some short stack donkey who shoves with k7 against your strong ace, and it doesn't even matter the blind levels, cause i see with 15 blind levels people are doing the dumbest things ever, the 3-5 way pre flop all ins are disgusting to watch and the suckouts are nasty! i don't know about you guys but im gonna start playing these super low buy in tourneys less and less, just don't see value in them anymore and the prizes are not that good anyways even if you ship the whole tourney you are gonna get only 300-500 dollars with a huge field, i hope someone agrees with me or gives me advice on how to play against these super fishy micro tourneys, i have the bankroll to play bigger tourneys but am careful with managing my buy in costs and new to poker so i am learning as i go, what do you guys think? am i wrong or are these type of players you find at these micro tourneys as hard to play against for you as for me?

i must say i do better in the low buy ins then the large buyins, only because i have never had a bankroll for the larger buyins,

But my advice to you is this, we all know that fishes like to see flops, we also know that early on they like to see a lot of flops, so you must sit tight early in the MTT
i would go as far to say sit tightly until you have 20-30BB, forget the 3x raises anymore, we raise to give bad odds to the opponent but not so much that they call anyway, so early on if your entering a hand probably raise 6-7x
as the blinds get bigger they suddenly worry about there stack, so now as long as you have 30BB you can steal attempt with suited connectors PP, once your down to 22BB any hand you play should be a shove, earlier on in the MTT your shoves gave you nothing, now (if its uncalled you increase your stack size by 10%, if there are limpers this could be higher)
then when they finally call you, hopefully you have them dominated, you may get sucked out on, but not as much as if you rush into it

The only other issue now is, if its a huge MTT your gonna get sucked out on a hell of a lot more
but thats why theres more varience in them, your controlling how often and when your racing, and if they call with K 9 and you have A K they lose 80% of the time

My recommendation is don't play those at all. Save your bankroll and your nerves, you will need them both when you start playing higher. Try to build a decent bankroll from cash games or SNGs, HU or whatever you like, and then start playing MTTs but not lower than $10 buy-in. By playing cash games you will develop decent post flop skills, and playing SNGs will have a huge impact on your Bubble and short stack play when you get deeper into the tournament.

i agree with everything you said king, taking the tight strategy early on can be hard sometimes especially when you see someone early have a lot of chips by shoving into a huge way pots etc, but if you can manage to play optimally there is value here, now im only wondering if the normal tourneys or turbos have more value, i haven't played too many of these to give a insightful opinion but i have ran deep in them so far no final tables only a 12th finish in a turbo with a lot of players, gonna give it 100%

in all honesty turbos will only make worse swings, i was playing the 90 man 25c tourneys, it was only day 2 when i got my first bink, $5.80 for a first place wasnt bad at all, i had to win 2 races in that MTT, the rest was purely outplaying the opponents on the final table

race 1 was when blinds were just hitting the antes, i raced A Q vs 9 9 all in pre
race 2 was further down the line in fact on the bubble and that was A J vs 10 10 again all in pre

now i had shoved a hell of a lot more then just these 2 hands, so my chips wasnt dwindling, but they arent going to call around the bubble with trash no matter how fishy they are :) thats almost a fact

PS back in January i turned $30 into $330 and i had managed to move up to $6 stakes on a agressive 40x BI rule but this was all on smallish fields (less then 200) so it can be done, ive managed to do it 3 times before, my main problem is i never keep the money in my poker account cus well im broke lol, but that doesnt stop me enjoying the game :) so good luck at the tables dude

I quite agree with what you say you tournaments with low entry are full of fish, but instead of being beneficial for these sharks are a problem because they play very bad hands, but the win because they are lucky. the fact that the input is low is also a problem because the fish play a lot all-in to get a lot of chips, but if you lose it is not a problem because the entry is very low!

Kind of sounds like a bad beat post. Low buy in tournaments are pretty easy/standard to play imo. Not a lot of people thinking above level 2 or 3. You're not going to win every single one you play obviously but the level of play means you should be cashing more often than not. It's all about what your bankroll allows you to play. If I'm going to dip n dive in low buy ins, I prefer the rebuys over freezeouts.

Play very tight early in the low mtt. i agree there are a lot of fishes. they have only luck. but in long-term period you have to be successful with your play.

I dont believe he made this as a bad beat thread, my guess is, he plays too many hands, the more hands you play against a fish the more times you will get outdrawn by them, (i got it all in Q Q vs J 9 on a jack high flop, i was 75% favourate, and lost) imagine racing everytime you KNOW your ahead, then your just looking for an early exit,

Other things to consider and i dont know because i dont know bernotas' play, but maybe he calls too many all ins from low stackers, and not putting enough pressure on opponents that has a similar stack level to him, the more all ins you call, lets just say A K vs K 10, you will win 80% of the time to improve your stack by say 20%, but when you lose, your stack is dented immensely ruining your chances at a final table
so against a low stacker we are putting our tourney on the line for limited gain
against the big stackers we can take bigger risks, cus we only need them to pay off a small portion of the time and we have doubled our stack

example, not saying its a good example but its one none the less
your in the button and 2 opponents next to you have 15-20BB
your dealt 8 9s and its folded around to you
If you shove you gain 10% of your stack as long as they fold, now if they get A 10 you can imagine a call, and your in bad shape, but your only going to lose 60% of the time, but your doubling up giving you a real stack to play with 40% of the time

against same opponent, obv hes already showed he will call with A 10, so if you get A J, A Q or even A K and you shove into him, he will still call but this time 80% of the time you shall win, and if he doesnt call again you still increase your stack by 10%

your chosing your races, and your chosing which opponents you can pick on, BB management is the key, and when you double up you have a huge chance

very hard to play tournaments with low buy-in, high-stakes players in addition to being better players are maisnagressivos with good hands, so my reading better and better players.
