Lately I have been on one of the worst losing streaks I can remember, on Jan 5th 2013 I had a cash for $1100 and that has been it for the year. I’ve had a total of 24 tournaments in a row with no cash totaling $5665 in buy-ins which also makes it one of the worst financial slides I have experienced at my stakes. My head has been all tied up in knots and I actually took 3 weeks off, putting myself on the bench if you will, but returned to the lineup yesterday.

Last night I finally came out of the slump and won a $200 live Saturday tournament with 118 players at my local casino. It was interesting because everything clicked right along; I hardly ever make Ace high calls but in this game I did so on three separate occasions and was right each and every time – things were going my way all day and I was playing very well. I did have the added benefit of receiving some hands at the right time and positions and that helped as well, but there is one hand that took place that I would like to see what everyone’s thoughts are.

We got down to the final four players and I had about $950K of the $4.1 Million chips in play. 2 other players were close to my stack but probably around $700K each and the chip leader had ~$1.7-$1.8 Million chips. Blinds were $15K and $30K with a $3K ante and I was simultaneously in the cutoff and UTG.

I’m dealt :qc4: :jc4: and open raise to $80K. The button calls and does the SB, who is the chip leader, with better than 2:1 on my stack.

Pot: $282K

Flop: :9c4: :ad4: :8c4:

The SB checks to me and I bet $120K. The button calls the $120 making the pot $522K and the SB moves all-in.

What do you think? I’ll post the results later.

I'm thinking with flush and gut shot draws I'm calling this late in the tourney. You have a great chance to double (or nearly triple) up. If you win the hand you're in great shape to win it all. If not you still take home a nice cash. Especially if the the button comes along and he loses also.

Snap call imo. Getting excellent pot odds with the sd+fd. Plus I think he jams here as a steal.

Shoving the flop is definitely not a bad answer. I didn’t think about this in real-time and only thought about that fact in hindsight. Then again, in this case, that nearly certainly would have worked out far worse.

It wasn’t a steal but you’re not far off!

So I had :qc4: :jc4: on the :9c4: :ad4: :8c4: flop and I did snap call all-in – in fact I called so fast I almost got whiplash!

The SB flipped over :as4: :5h4:

The turn was the :6c4: and quite frankly I don’t remember what the river was nor do I care! The pot was somewhere around $2.1 Million of the $4.1 Million in play; it took the dealer a solid 5 minutes to count the stacks out and pay me – so that was kind of fun!

Anyway I received a tongue lashing from my aggressive foe about how he “couldn’t believe I called all my chips off on a draw”. I immediately blew him off, maybe he’s just a sore loser, looking back on it he might see things more from my point of view – maybe, but who knows!

The next hand I was dealt :jc4: :jh4: in the BB and he tilt-pushed his last ~$800K - $900K from the button, I called, obviously, and took the chip leaders entire stack in two consecutive hands – so that was really fun:)

I mainly just wanted to see if anyone had a problem with this hand, obviously if the flop were :10c4: :9c4: it would be a no-brainer, but in hindsight I have reflected on it and wondered if I should have tempered my call there; maybe given the situation a little more thought, but in the end I don’t think I’m good enough to fold that hand, with that draw, in that situation. There is just no way to get away from that – is there? So I don’t know how he could be upset, he would’ve done the same thing.
