In America's Cardroom/Blackchip Poker, there are a certain few tournaments that have four digit guaranteed prize pools and relatively low entry fees. There's just one problem: an outrageously long late registration period, and usually a deep or at least a fairly deep stack. I'm wondering if there's any good advice anyone can give me for tackling such tournament formats in particular--what might one do differently from a more fast paced tournament or even an ordinary deepstack event?

My input.

In those long tourny's i like to set a goal. 5000 to 10,000 an hour. Grind it out slowly a little each hour. Then you have a pretty good stack at the end of registration.

that registering time is to achieve some guarantee prizepool its normal for the site who is less use than pokerstars need some time to guarantee that money because they have less players...
In sunday milion we have a big late registration to achieve the guarantee money to pokerstar don't loose money... It's normal for the sites, they want to win money not to loose, they find that strategy to guarantee more players.....
But with that big period, we have alot of time to register, or to play only good hands

i can understand 1, 2 or even 3 hours of late reg, but 5 hours is ridiculous

If there is for example 4hr late reg you can reg after 2hr but then i think is the best play tight/aggressive cuz when you have a good cards you have to double up cuz blinds are big already.

yeah its true, late reg should be limited to a maximum time lets say an hour its crazy think to seat couple of hours at an room in a game when we really begin tournament after the reg closes ...

After late registration you need minimum twice the starting stack even to consider min cash.

I'm playing in one of these right now. Been playing 3.5 hours and another 1.5 before registration even ends.

Whenever I play these I feel like I'm maybe being too tight, flatting 3bets with AK instead of 4betting/jamming, rarely firing multiple barrels. Then on the bubbl e I have 10bbs and just fight to survive.

Is this just how tournaments go? I only really played cash before this. Or should I really just take whatever edges I can find everywhere but the bubble? After playing for hours, holding AJ in the bb facing a shove for 2/3 my stack feels so gross. I just want to fold everything but QQ+.

if people want to register 4 hours into a tournament with 1/4 of the average stack then great, they're just putting money in your pocket when they do.

Don't see why you should play any different because of it

Tournaments with late registration 4+ hours to play with a huge stock of patience, mainly in these tournaments at the end of registration of the prize is very close. I personally do not play these tournaments, there is no such patience, maximum of 2 hours..
