I have been playing more live lately and I'm finding a huge difference in pre flop play. Online, most players fold to 3x raise pre flop. At a full table, you may get 1 or possibly 2 callers. Live, it seems no matter what the raise, you going to get callers.

Last week, in a game with the blinds 400/800/200, 10 players at the table, someone raised to 5000 and 6 people called. Then a couple hands later, 6 people limped in.

When people play like that, how does one put anyone on a range?

I have always been of the schooling, to not limp into a pot, online. I am finding that live, it is sometimes OK to just limp. It's also much cheaper.

Seems no matter how much I raise, there will be more than one caller.
I raised 5X the BB from MP, in a hand I held Q,Q and got 3 callers. An Ace comes on the flop, and, I just have to believe one of those callers has an ace and my hand is no good. When playing against only one caller, I believe that my Q's are still good and will bet. At least this way I feel I still have a chance.

Should I just rethink my game, and limp, seeing as I'm going to get so many callers? Or, am I inviting 7,2 suck outs?

Don't limp really.... Just play really really TAG. Bet like crazy when you got the goods, fold when you don't. Sometimes speculation can be ok though. Occasionally a limp with six limpers already with like 9 10 suited won't cause too much harm if you choose to speculate. But pretty much never open limp, if you're UTG you shouldn't limp with 9 10 suited you should just fold. Sure low prices are cheap but ideally I would be finding good spots to just go town on the table .... Value town that is

I think often, in the early levels in live tourneys you'll have more players that see a flop. I think this has a little bit to do with boredom...nobody is multi tabling or watching TV at the same time they are playing.

So...the preflop calling ranges are wider (at least early on). How to adjust?

Well generally you need to have a stronger hand to continue post flop. So if all you have is an overpair...pot control and try to get to the river for cheap.

Do I think you should start limping your monsters? NO! You think too many players call your 4x bet? Well more than that will call a limp.

When you DO improve to better than top pair go for extra value. When draws complete and a player seems to like their hand...find a fold.

And it really depends in the table dynamic. I've been at plenty of live tables that were nothing like you described...but I've been at plenty of those loose-cally tables too!
