Last year this time I was in Tunica for my first ever live tournament and really my first time at the casino. I played well at local house tournaments did a little reading and such but really I was just excited to be headed to a casino. My question is how do people get pass the number of players they are facing and when is it that time to make a move? I recall looking up at the screen every 15 minutes to see what was the avg. stack and how much I was over or under it, I recall being happy each update and seeing the number remaining getting lower and lower. I actually made it pass the first dinner break, I felt like I played well but probably should have played more hands. I guess it's more of a What have you done in live tournaments question? Thanks

Basically if you are maintaining an average/near average stack and the remaining players are dropping you are running well. How did you go? did you cash?:D

You did not do any failure in this situation, so how does your story ends up, do you still go to casinos sometimes, or was it the first and the last try??

Maybe it’s just me but live tournaments are vastly different than online tournaments (all around) but specifically with respect to average stack sizes and whatnot.

First you must consider that live tournaments play much, much, slower than online tourneys – as such the value to looking at the board every 15 minutes is not very good! Personally, I take a look at the board after every break and that’s it!

You also must consider that these stats are updated manually, usually by the floor, or as delegated by the floor – as such the latency is high, especially if there are lots of players, and the accuracy of the board is not real good.

In my opinion, you shouldn’t look at the board that often – it’s just putting mostly wrong or late, time sensitive information in your head. Additionally, it’s taking your mind off of what matters most and that is the game of poker going on at your table. I just chalk it up to the “out of my control” category and don’t think about it very often, certainly not every 15 minutes – I think you’d benefit to take this into account in your next live tourney!

I haven't been to a casino since but I have been to a couple of poker rooms to play cash. Also I have played some tournaments at these poker rooms. I will be playing more once I get more practice in, thanks for the advice everyone.
