Hi, I was playing at my local casino last night and as the tourney went on i eventually got moved to another table, the blinds were 400-800 the antes had kicked in and i only had about 14,000 chips left. but three or four players at my new table had about 50-60,000 and no matter what hand i would try to limp in with to see a flop i new i was going to end up all in against at least one of them. so eventually before the antes and blinds ate all my chips i pushed with kk and split the pot with the chip leader then a few hands later i went all in with AQs and got called off 2nd in chips with 10 10. the tens held and i was off packing in 16th place.
Is there any other way i could of played differntly to get back in the game and make the final table even though i didnt get the cards.
thanks

never think about limping with the blinds so big and with antes... with the hands you said you couldn't have done anything differently just unlucky especially with the split pot.

at that stage its not really about picking up premiums (although they help), your shoving range has increased so seriously think about shoving when its folded around to you with any reasonable cards as the blinds and antes will increase your stack... after a few of these your back in business

another possibilty is 3bet shoving over a pfr from mid stacks who can afford to fold. if you notice someone who is raising a reasonable amount of the time (and maybe you've seen him fold to a 3bet) don't hesitate so shove over the top. bare in mind the position you have and the position he's raised in. ie dont shove over him if he's raised in early position as his hand range is stronger here.

read up on end game and short stack play in these forums
good luck

Sure - stop limping when you're short stacked.

You started this table with less than 20 big blinds. Your effective stack is even shorter than that given that there are antes. You simply can't afford to be calling off 5% or more of your stack hoping that you'll hit the flop and have the best hand. You'd be much better off trying to steal the blinds and antes preflop and when you're around 12 big blinds or less that really means pushing all in preflop.
