Since the online scene isn't that great anymore I figure i'll get some time in at the casino. Tournament structure is $100 buy in with 6000 starting chips and blinds every 20 minutes. Blinds start at 25/50. I have played this tournment a few times before and it always comes down to blinds getting huge pretty quick. I have always thought to stay tight early and open up some once the blinds start getting higher. What are your thoughts to succeed in this structure?

This.
Just play it like a regular online tournament, be more agressive when antes kick off...
But that's kind of a long structure you'll have alot of time to wait for good hands, so just play your game
And whats the field usually?

Slow good structure+small field, looks like a rly good tournament that if you have the edge to other players you don't need to donk out to win, just play your poker and of course a little help with the cards is allways needed :)

put people to tough decisions, they're not there to bust early.

Play tight early. In the low blind early levels most of these people, from my experience, will call everything.

Continue tight to shorthanded but up your aggression as it gets into later stages. Identify donks that you want to get in hands with.

Look for spewers who can give you implied odds for your spec hands - especially earlier.

It seems to me pots become big in low level blinds because of huge 3 bets or there will be 5 players seeing a flop.

Correct. That's why you want to make sure to identify your prey. You can very quickly be playing for a 1/3 or more of your stack- so be careful about what hands you are willing to do that with. Top pair top kicker can be the death of you.

In theory, you could go to final table by just taking down three or four pots.
