$35 entry. 15 minute levels starting at 5/10
1500 starting chips.
$20 re-buys. Two $20 Add ons.
Usually lasts 3-4 hours.

For the first hour a lot of player's are really loose. Lots of re-buys and most people take the add on.

As a player who does not want to re-buy or add-on at all. I am looking for some input to help improve my game in this tournament and make it to the final table.

Side note: I have made it to the final table numerous times. I normally wait for good hands and position or try to get in there cheap with decent hands.

Just looking for some input. Thanks!

15 minute levels is really bad... know your push/fold charts for the short stack you'll have after a couple of levels and always take the add-ons, 1500 chips for 20$ when the buyin is 35$ for 1500 chips is really good, no matter what stack size you have.

My advise is to stay out of the game, there are lot of rich and allin players, and they want to start play normal when they doubleup, a can play like chiplead, and will do addon, any time they lose all in. play only big hands, yes you need luck. and w8 45min, and then start playing bigger range of hands

Sorry forgot to mention that normally 50-60 people enter.

Its not a complete all in fest.. but people do make horrible preflop calls often.

Isn't much more you can do than what you've posted. Really work hard on your hand reading and on putting opponents on ranges (ie pay attention after you fold). Be vary careful on your betsizing. Over-bet shove in appropriate spots based on player reads, middle PP from LP vs multiple limpers preflop etc. Take notes, yes just write down some notes on players. And just embrace the variance these tournaments have.

I go to a home game very much like this and I sit back and just watch the destruction for the first couple rounds. If I do go into a pot I bet strong. People no matter how drunk and loose they are playing will notice if you don't play a hand in 3 orbits and you pop in with a big bet or re-raise someone.

Usually things slow down when the re-buy and add ons end. I just try to relax and have fun and watch the players for the first 3 rounds. Then once that is over I usually have a pretty good read on the villain's and how to play them.

With all those chips on the table you only need to win a few really good hands to get double or tripled up. You will get action so just make sure your starting hands are strong and when you enter a hand know that if will get raised.

My test is when I put chips into a pot I say are you will to pay up to 3 times more to play these cards.

Good luck!

Don't play tournaments with re buy. You can join later, before late registration finish but until then you will have 50 out of 200 people with 20k+ chips

It sounds like you are on the right track. Be very tight, BUT be super aggressive. When you do hit a hand look to get as many chips in the pot as you can. There will be a bunch of guys willing to stack off with you since they are looking to rebuy anyway.
The reason for this is it is such a fast tournament (the blinds are escalating quickly and your starting stack is shrinking fast) - this is causing most to play very loose. You are wisely playing tight - but seeing less hands means you have to get them to pay off to keep pace ("make hay while the sun shines"). Once you get to the final table you get a little more to playing normal - just keep your eyes out for the luck boxes who also got there but do not have the discipline to back their foot off the gas. Remember, everyone just spent the last 3 hours at fast and loose tables and some will still be in a frenzy (that you can take advantage of).
