Hello, this saturday I will play first time live poker. Can you give me some tips what to pay attention and what is different than online play? Thank you. Martin.

I've only played once in a casino environment myself. It takes a bit of getting used to, good luck.

One (obvious) difference is you have to count how many chips there are yourself :)

When you aren't used to the chip colours/denominations it takes a while to keep up with the pot size and other peoples stack size.

-Dont be nervous.
-Look for tells, hide yours.
-Act normally, dont think too long or too short.
-Live, position is everything.

first time live

You should be well rested,be calm. What I do is before I go is practice slow short breaths in and out through your nose. You can use dark sunglasses and bball cap so they can't see your eye movement. Don't look at your cards till your play so you can watch their reactions to the cards and play. Watch the hand movement are they shaking putting chips in play and are they constant in movement. By all means don't tell them it's first time, if you talk keep it plain and simple. Good luck good cards to you.

All will come in time, at your first game I think you should strictly focus on acting right on your time.

In my first live poker plays, sometimes I were folding waaaay before It was my turn and like twice showed hand before ended... Good that was local tourney tho.

No.1 Tip would be: get sunglasses. If good players will play with you, and you've never played live, you'll get read like a book.

From a jcarver stream and other players, the advice I caught was about not to wear sunglasses (and when you thinks about it its right)!

You need to learn to control your emotions on these low stakes (dont know if low stakes but i assume if first time then it is).

That is your playground to get some experience, if you need glasses to play poker now at your first minor tourney, what will happen on a major one ?

I remember my first live tourney. I made some mistakes counting the chips and played way too tight because I was too afraid to be a dumbass really.

The lesson I learned is just be yourself. No one knows you or knows your game, so they will give your more respect than not. And be weary of talkers. Some try to play with your mind.

Just play your game, do what you think is best, and have fun!

Prepare for mistakes :) You will probably have problem with keeping chip count and pot size, if this is your first time you will probably string bet a couple of times. Don't let that those thing influence you. There are some great videos and tutorials online which can prepare you for first time ;)

Good luck btw
