Okay, so my casino only offers 1 tournament a week and I've been avoiding it like the plague. It's a $100 ($80+$20) buy in. 20minute levels, 25 minutes for the final table, and 5k start stack. You can re-enter once and you can get an addon $50 for 3k at the end of level 4.

Structure starts 25/25 then to 25/50, 50/100 etc.

How do I play these tournaments?
I feel like I should be super aggressive preflop, which is fine, but what about postflop? Do you try to play the board and see a showdown? Can you really afford to do any sort of post flop play because of the short levels, or should you be check/fold or check/raise only on the flop etc?

I get its' very dependant on your hands and what the flop shows, but just general guidelines on how to deal with these tournaments.

You need to be really sticky in these tournaments and try to build a stack quickly. Try not to use the addon because it hurts your ROI, if other players use it then our ROI will actually be greatly improved.

From what I have gathered about Hyper Tournaments, is you need to only very picky about your starting hands and play aggressive post flop and preflop. You can't afford to limp as it hurts your stack. As for the check folding or check/raising, it would all depend on the opponent.

How picky? Are suited connectors worth open raising with? I know I can call a raise with them but should I open is another story... What kind of hands should I be lookign for, other then pocket pairs? AK, AQ type hands?

They offer a hyper shortstack tournament for 80+20 $, lol??

Thats way too much rake for such a tourney i think, you really don't have any odds in playing it :/

Yeh, I actually discussed this with someone today, he's done the math and it seems after rebuys and addons casino takes about %18 rake from total prizepool...

They have a $350 (330+20) end of the month Tournament. 20k start stack, blinds start at 25/50, they have antes. No rebuys or addons, and 25minute levels. SO I think for the extra $250 I actually woudl be better off playing this tournament over the crappy monday night one.

Yeah, that's more reasonable compared to the other one. 25% rake ? A robbery man !

Yep! It sucks because for someone who wants to get better at live tournaments, I have either this monday night one which is garbage, or pub poker leagues, and I'll be lucky to find anythign with more then a $500 first prize for 10 hours of poker and its 15 minute levels for the pub games, so you're seeing 5 hands a level at best.
