Hi. I'm a cash game player who has qualified for a live $50k free roll at parx casino. Qualification was based on playing 60 hours at the cash games in the month of April. I played SNGs for a few months online with decent success before I switched to cash. I am doing fairly well playing cash games but I am unsure of my basic tournament strategy. Places 1-100 get paid, and I think the blinds are fairly quick, maybe 20mins, and 600-1200 players are expected, probably 900-1000. I would appreciate any basic strategy tips. Thanks in advance.

Deeps stack will favour a cash game player. Play your standard cash game in the early stages when everyone has a very deep stack, but a little less agg as you can't reload if you bust out.
Near the bubble ICM does become a factor but it's not really a huge conisderation in a large field MTT like it would be in a SNG.

18-22BB is perfect size stack to 3-bet shove all in. Do it often in late stages against players you feel are weak, or just opening way too much and generally being very aggressive. Blind stealing, and re-stealing is how you make money in the later stages of tournies. Post flop play goes out the window.
If you're inexperienced this is where you'll struggle the most as finding good spots isn't easy.
Way too much to explain in one post with a shitty keyboard to type on, but look on the internet you'll find lots of basic tips to give you an edge.

First couple of orbits try and get a few reads on each of the other players - who limps a lot, who raises too much, who flats 3bets OOP and folds flops, etc. Then use that to slowly chip up without showdowns, abusing limps and weak raises and taking down as many pots as you can as cheaply as possible. Live players are far less aware of pot sizes so you can change your bet sizing hugely and bet big when you want calls and much smaller when you are bluffing for the same effect. Pick on the weak players and not on the better ones if you can, as they will be less likely to play back.

If you start getting to 25bb or so tighten up, choose your stealing spots more carefully and choose spots to 3bet jam over looser players - you'll be amazed what respect you can get jamming only 20bb against tighter players too. If you don't drop down to 25bb and keep a decent stack sizes while other people do have short stacks, steal a lot if there are antes in play.

At 15bb or so never raise/fold when stealing, only raise call or jam all if you want extra fold equity with weaker hands or if it makes the hand a lot easier to play (AQ for example). Also be aware of blind levels; you may have 19bb and think about raise folding now, but if blinds are about to jump big in 2 minutes then it's not a good spot.

Essentially steal wide and value bet big :)

Read this thread made by a decent tourney player, it may just help you.

Ok. I have the blind structures. If some tourney players could give some advice on this I'd appreciate it. Stacks vary from 10k, 12k, or 15k depending on how many hours logged. I have 10k.
20 min blinds
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300, 25
200-400, 50
300-600, 75
Break
400-800, 100
600-1200, 200
1k-2k, 300
1.5k-3k, 400
2k-4k, 500
3k-6k, 500
Break
5k-10k, 1k
8k-12k, 2k
10k-20k, 3k
15k-30k, 4k
20k-40k, 5k
30k-60k, 5k
50k-100k, 10k
80k-120k, 20k
100k-200k, 30k

529 people qualified. I registered today(2days b4) and was number 245. Payout is as follows
1st-10k
2nd-5k
3rd-2.8k
4th-2k
5th-1.7k
6th-1.5k
7th-1.3k
8th-1.1k
9th-900
10th-700
11th-20th-500
21st-50th-350
51st-100th-150

I know that's a lot of info, and I'm not quite sure how to interpret it. The blinds seem quick and the antes seem big, but I dk if that's standard. Also IMO payout is way top-heavy. Advice or simple strategy is appreciated. Thanks.

In the cash game section in sam's live April cash thread I posted result with hand history. I meant to come back here and thank everyone for their responses but never got to it. So thanks guys. If you ever need cash game advice, live or online feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help. Cliff notes on tournament: busted out in 5th blind level, set over set. Pretty funny because I ended up getting Deja vu. Check out my cash thread to see what I mean. Thanks again.
