Would y'all help me out with this?

Pre-Black Friday, I recall late registration being limited to 15 or perhaps 30 minutes, and that there were not a significant number of players who would utilize it.

Now, at least on Bovada, I've seen registration allowed for two or more hours after tournament start. In searching these threads, it seems this is now common on the other sites as well.

More people are registering late than are registering on time. That seems crazy to me. I regularly see, and y'all must too, hundreds upon hundreds of folks enter tournaments where their chip stacks are a third or a quarter of the average.

Why would anyone in their right minds do this? What am I missing? And is there a strategy to use against such players?

There may be circumstances in a rebuy, depending on its structure, when it is +EV to register at the very end of the rebuy period, take the addon and continue. However, in a freezeout it is always dumb to start late. If you have an edge over the field, you should look to play as many hands as possible or, if you believe you are inferior to the other players, you should stay out of that game and save your money. There is no middle way.

It depends on having an edge in short stack play or deep stack play over your opponents, i assume :)

I'm not a fan of all the sites and the late registration and miss the old freezeout GT's...
