Say there is a late register tournament going on, no reenter, no rebuys or add-on. How many big blinds would you want to have before you would register, meaning when would the blinds be to high for the amount of starting chips you would have when you joined the tournament. Thanks

it depends for me on how i feel that day.
Mainly i try to keep 30 to 50 bb's minimal when i enter.
but i have had good sessions when i enter last minute with just over 15 bb's.

In Turbo i find it more important to register with a good stack, slow tournaments like the bigger or deep stack's are good to go in with low stack and wait for the right hands to double up a few times.

my best results i get with late reg. also live, say i usually step in with level 4 to 8 and just wait for the good hands to play. after i have stacked and seen the others play a little i can loosen up.

i rather don't like first minute start because of all the cheap ass suck outs, fishes and donky's. I rather wait half n hour to an hour so they are out or sollidly stacked so they can make mistakes and build your stack.

Friday night/Saturday morning I was in a tournament with 2 hrs 2 mins late registration. We had probably 50 entries within the last 30 mins of people attempting to survive their way into the $. So people were buying in with anywhere from 3-12 bbs and hoping to survive into the $. Pretty stupid strategy if you ask me, but it was okay since it added about 10 cashing positions to the prize pool.

The only games I enter late are the freerolls that have late registration at Americas Cardroom.

Any other time, I'd only enter late if it is still the 1st or 2nd level.

Depends sometimes in the cheaper lr tourneys I tend to wait til the end to enter and see if i can get a few double ups to counter act the big blinds. I've had a lot of good runs in tourneys waiting to register late. This also cuts down on the bad beats you would take that would cripple your stack and make you play uncomfortably or even get knocked out.

The rule of thumb I've been using is that if I were to double up and it would put me in the payout range, I would register. This is not really based on anything statistical but I seem to cash frequently enough for it to work

Bolded part is exactly the reason I prefer to reg in the first few levels as much as possible. Why anyone would want to avoid bad players is beyond me.

The only time I register late is if I was planning on playing a certain tourney and am running late for some reason, or if I see the tourney is over the gtd $ and feel it could be profitable to do so. But of course, I like to enter with at least 15-20bbs so I have a fighting chance. Otherwise I'll wait for another game.

thats a good question, think the best way to look at it is "what is your tourney equity?" or how will the additional chips change my odds to win money

i have never understood why some want to enter late, the fish tend to go out first, and you want to play hands with fish

when was late registration must be at least 20 big blinds or you lose it quickly, and you will take off from the tournament

The tournament should start with the beginning. Personally, I like to play, never tried to choose the tactics to get the prize

I think that being in it from the start allows for cheap looks at the flop, and allows play of Speculative Hands. If it flops your way its a bonus, if however your just too far from making a decent hand (getting to the point) it didn't cost you much to see the flop.

The starting chips will dictate how late might be too late. Taking note of the Antes and Blinds, waiting for a decent hand to present it self might take a few hands or more.

My opinion get in the game take advantage of any Fish and build stack, waiting for a Late Registration on purpose is more of a con than a pro.

I think the length of the blinds makes a difference, if they are long you can get away with less, also if you have max players on the table so you dont see the blinds so often. If there's ante's then you need to push the limits up as well. In normal play i start to get twitchy at 10BB at 5 or less i need to make a move however if there are other short stacks i will watch them. This is generally later in the game but at the start i would probably want at least 20+BB's. Would depend how much entrance was and the prize pool. Small stakes it tends to just be for fun anyway.

I thing because wait to BB is more expensive and when they play is more rentable.

late reg.

Depends on the style play you have planned for the tournaments.
Alot of players register late level on Acr.
With tournaments 6,12, & 25 levels almost all tournaments are late reg on Acr.
And btw 25 levels is a long tournament.

no matters what tournament is (except freerolls) with rebuys or not a late entry is risky you have to get a good hand soon ,so you can stay a tourney, for me is not worth the late register

20bbs, otherwise it's just gonna be a lottery where you have to play very aggresive to get your stack up fast.

I don't think it matters how many blinds the buy-in amount represents. The good thing about later stages of a tournament is that people with large stacks tend to pay short stack all-ins easier, so if you get two decent cards before the flop you go all-in and hope for the best. You are more likely to double-up than in the early stages. This strategy works best for the beginners, because it does not require post flop strategy. Once you double up, you can play the waiting game, and get into the money, or even better, get a monster before the flop and double up again.
