I have noticed on come tournaments that when the buy in period is about to end the last chance to buy in is near the bubble, how many people just buy in them and let the chips run out just to cash?

I've seen this and I've considered doing it. For example, there are 30 players left, top 27 are paid, and Late registration is about to close. But right as the late registration is about to end, a lot of people buy in. So now there could be 45 players and you are not so close to the money bubble.

Some tourney have a 150 gtd and only 15 enter. Now that seems like a good tourney to enter

I always thought that's due to fact that they like/know/prefer playing shortstack and don't really know/like playing deep. So sorta don't mind to buy in late and see how it goes, imo

I do it and it doesn't bother me. If we are at the bubble and I can get 5 BB I'll sit till I get to the money then find a hand to shove with.

I'd say in about 30% I actually end up with a stack and do far better than the min.

Quick easy money...

^ this is the first problem with your strategy.

The second problem is that tournaments with buy-ins this late usually make late-reg be like 3 blinds worth LOL! What if people don't kill each other off for you?

I think your theory has some relevance, but it not good getting 1500 chips at this stage and having blinds of 300 600. You need to find situations where the ratio of starting stack to BB level is reasonably decent. Otherwise you have no time to play properly, and are just shoving with 1st Ace.

Deep stack tournaments, a lot of people sit out the 1st 2 sessions, when the stack size to blind ratio is huge.
