Knock-Outs are my FAV too b/c I can usually at least win my buy-in back from bounties if nothing else. What sites do you play?
Reader Beware: Apparently I suck at poker. LOL Try my advice, if at all, at your own risk.
Advice: I play them like any other MTT but a little tighter than usual b/c ppl are hunting that bounty. You have to play Tight-Aggressive b/c MTT's are ultimately about who last longer. Just play Tight yet Aggressive, steal Blinds when you can & Beware of Suck Outs & ppl catching Runner Runner.
Sometimes you just have to know when to FOLD. Defend your Blinds as much as possible but don't get yourself into trouble doing it.
I know this will sound sexist but I don't care; most sites let you view your opponents profile. So I make notes not only about their play style, hand ranges & habits etc but also when they joined the site (Gives me a GENERAL idea how long they've played OLP), what country their from (Track this & you will figure out why) & most important of these; whether their Male or Female. (Anyone who knows anything about Science or Psychology knows men & women think, behave & are just wired differently)
- B4 I get attacked; I AM NOT SAYING MEN ARE BETTER OR VISE VERSA!!!! Poker is about information & sex is just one more piece to an opponents puzzle for me.
It might sound silly but knowing my opponents sex helps me quite a bit.
Try tracking these things & let me know if any of them helped please. Wish I had better advice, but GOOD LUCK.

I play them as a usual tournement. My advice is dont risk to knockout someone with risky hands because I lost a 200k knockout tournement with AQ suited and have flopped 4 one collered card. So i go all in myself because i wanted the bounty of a little chip man who was all in before me and four others called me. The flush dont come and i lost this one of the best tournements i played.

I always find that players tend to push with weaker hands and call all in’s to try and get the bounty.
If you play them tight and push when you have a good hand you will probably break even.

Doesn’t always work but.....

Just my 2¢

Like i said its dangerous to play with risky hands in knockout tournements. But players do that for the bounties, thats also a reason why i love the knockouts.

Most players in knock out games are hungry... they chase as much as possible.

Play tight while you read the table... then steal some blinds... if you get a good hand and someone is chasing... try to take him out of the hand fast... to risky to see many or more cards.

Its not so hard to finish in top positions and win back your buy-in... and some extras if you do it right.

Choose a level that suits you and with the one you are comfortable... start with the $2.20 KO... I usually play this games on PS the $3.50 and $7.00 sometimes I adventure in the $15.00

I also play the bounty games on Carbon, the $2.20 and $11.00

Good luck

Knockouts are fun i would say to avoid collecting bounties because many people fight over them

Knockout tournaments remind me freerolls lol. You have AJ? WHATEVER, ALL-IN! KQ? ALLIN! 4 2? Erghmm, not all in

It depends on the structure for me. In super turbo , like the kitchen sink on FTP, I go all in every A and chase the bountys . All normal structure tournaments , I play without looking for bounties. They come automaticlly

I measure the table up. Some tables have a lot of tight players. some have a lot of loose. Also take notes of any people making foolish decisions and be ready to call their all-in with a less then optimal A-rag.

Bounties aren't worth sacrificing your chances at the main prize.

I think if you play to win the bounties you'll weaken your game. Exception is when someone is very short stacked. If you play a good game the bounties will come naturally.

You can guestimtate style by looking at head prize and head prize vs chip stack. Someone in the final stages of a tournamwnt with no bounties is probably cautious, someone with high bounty count and relatively low chip stack probably aggressive. Both generalisations of course, but how I would look at it going up against someone.

Reader Beware: Apparently I suck at poker.

This ^ part of your post I agree with 100%
Defend your Blinds as much as possible

OP, please do NOT follow this ^ advice!
I know this will sound sexist but I don't care; most sites let you view your opponents profile. It might sound silly but knowing my opponents sex helps me quite a bit.

This ^ might be true in the lowest of micro buyin tournaments but in mid-buyins+ it is not true at all. Also, if you were to read some of the online women player's blogs you'd find they often will use sn's that will make them appear to be a 'young male'. < true story

Most players in knock out games are hungry... they chase as much as possible.

Play tight while you read the table... then steal some blinds... if you get a good hand and someone is chasing... try to take him out of the hand fast... to risky to see many or more cards.
Why would we want to 'try to take him out of the hand fast'? Sounds like a recipe to try to extract the least amount of value possible.

I like knockout tournaments, easy money even then is you didn't get in money.
Simply wait good cards. Try to call small all-ins (if your hand is good enought) and then it will be ok.

It is a bounty game, basically part of your buyin adds a bounty on your head. The common 1.35 on stars I think .25 becomes a bounty on your head so if your know someone out you get this bounty (.25) into your account.

Perhaps the biggest leak in playing a bounty game is to play it any different than a regular game, with exception being to be aware that players will sometimes call an all-in just to try and collect a bounty (look at this good and bad). In general take into considering that sometimes you may get called a little lighter and just play a general tag approach with adjustments throughout no different than any other tournament. If you play well enough the bounties will build, but in general you still want to play to win the tournament because that is where your going to make the $$ generally.

You have to wait for the right moment, basically. Don´t feel commited to call just because of the bounty knockout. It´s better go deep and to the money rather than lose one big pot just for the prize. If it´s cheap, and i mean less than 20% of your stack, even less, and if you have a decent hand, well that´s a different story and you can play the hand to eliminate your opponent, but only with a decent cards.

I'd like to put my two cents in to Joe Cooler--a have a few male friends who use that tactic, they list themselves as young women players online, when actually they have been playing live for quite some time and are very good players. So don't believe everything you read!

just play tight-agressive as in a normal sit and go but don't be afraid to pre flop push with JJ+ or AK. sometimes you need to gamble here

I play single table knockout sng's quite often, there's normally quite a few limpers to punish, as said before play TAG & try to take out the all ins with a decent hand. Can't stress it enough punish the limpers before they hit a flop.
