Good Morning Cardschat Followers,

I thought i would open up a thread on keeping notes on players as it is part of my strategy when working MTTs for the following reasons.

1. It helps when coming across similar players who tend to play the same tourneys as me.
2. It acts as a major piece of HU information when in a tight spot or marginal call if you have that little extra piece of information available.
3. Having notes assists with exploiting floating or peeling cards players..may call them limpers but at higher levels -the initial action can often be an action to induce a reriase or a plan of action for later streets.
4. It enables me to identify strong, solid players and identify the type of card holdings there are likely to have should we go to showdown.

There are many other more obvious reasons for keeping notes but what do you do..do you utilise this option? Let me know your thoughts.

Good Luck for the SCOOP 2018!

Regards

Hey Pirate.Definately keeping notes on players is essential, especially when they are regs or participate at same Mtts as you, often.I use to note actions vs villains when i see some strange play by them for example limping from BU with KK,or overshoving a dry flop etc or some good/bad plays by them..So i note whole action of hand (and board) to have a complete image of his given play and reaction against my play.
This helps a lot(as you said) at difficult spots to have extra information-edge and use it against them..Especially at late stage or FT of a tournament, every additional info costs money $$..GL at tables :)

Yeap sounds good , it will be easier for you in some future plays to know what to do against the same opponent. Be extra careful for the good ones because they know and do mix up their game! GL!!

definitely the use of notes on the oponenetes is a useful ... players usually have a pattern of action on the actions they take on certain hands ... knowing that in advance will help us make better decisions when we are playing against them in the same table

Having notes vs not having notes is a no brainer, but using them for online if your buy in range is very small stakes or freerolls will not really help that much.
From my own experience at those levels, you are usually playing against individuals who have little experience or little brain power and will not be predictable in their decision making or play.

Yeah, notes can make you, but they can also break you. It's easy to believe you can use opponents' tendencies against them, but only the best poker players really achieve that kind of skill. As a recreational player, I believe you're better off playing your cards, the board, and being aggressive. Patience and sticking to the basics will take you quite far in freerolls and small stake tables.

I find this is adjusting to player tendencies at the small stakes and freeroll tables. But some players are very exploitable. You need many hands on someone before you can rely on your notes but I find more information is better than less information as long as it is weighed properly.

I make notes on what hands they go allin or call, how they bet pre flop and in late position. Helps me especially later in tournaments to protect my chips and to steal chips. Also to induce bets.

Hi Agriggy,

glad to see a fellow player with similar thoughts on notes for players..there is only good to come from it.
Appreciate your honesty also for your reasons for making notes.

Kind Regards

Yep, it's absolutely essential. Especially because you're going to see many players multiple times while playing in a certain range.

Hi Rikoberto,

Thank you for your comments, i cannot see how making notes on a player can be anything but helpful and the detail in your reply explains this. Judging from the comments from other players..it seems a widely used tactic..

I wish you well for the future

The notes made by me on the players, in the future they help me a lot, when you meet with a tagged player you already know how he plays, what cards he plays and how he behaves, which gives you a big advantage over him, make notes of it in poker.

I like the option to write notes on players.

I've never done it personally but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt my game to start doing this.

It seems to help people identify players and to help in certain hands.

I'm gonna try the notes out for a change and see if I get any results.

Good thread!

I also think a poker tracker, in my case PT4, does already a lot of work for you. It automatically writes notes about specific hands a player played and also with what stack size etc.

Hi.
I have never used notes before.
But it is obvious, that the notes have their own great advantage.
I think that in the near future I will also start my notes.
Good luck.

There more you put into the notes the more you will get out. Dont know if you have heard about notecaddy but it takes notes automatically for you, its pretty cool. You can get it through holdem manager software.

Further evidence to keeping notes was evident last night in two tourneys i played in..i came up against 2 players of whom i had made notes on, it certainly helped as both villains played to type..i was able to Knock out one of them and manage my stack effectively against the other who was an all out maniac..i only had to make 2 calls against him and made 8000 chips profit from him.
Making notes is hardly revolutionary and new to players arsenal of knowledge but it highlights how so many of us do not utilise this option.

Take my advice - start making those notes, it only takes seconds and can be very profitable!

Good Luck on Sunday grinding

Taking notes on players is important. Its really help full in situations when you're in thought spot for deciding some move. Just make sure from time to time you re-check your note, you wrote on the opponent to check his progress, because maybe he upgraded his game, and put you in bad spot :). But overall ye, taking notes on players and playing with HUD is important thing!
