So i came 1/402 and 2/530 Omaha tournaments over the weekend. I cashed about $530 from it and now I need advice of what to do with this money to make me a better poker player, and to give me the best chance of increasing this amount.
I usually play 9man SNG's (texas) and have a good understanding of them after reading (and studying) Moshmans book times over (improvements are needed in the end game though).
Should i keep playing $4 buyin Omaha tournaments (as the play is pretty poor and i've just invested in two new Omaha books) or try and improve my SNG play?

I just need advice (because i don't want to donk away my $500 playing above my head, in tournys I have no equity in).

Cheeeeeeeeers

I would suggest maybe moving up one level from where you play at see if it's comfortable and if you can win at that level. If you find yourself losing come back down so you dont blow all your winnings. and congratulations on your finishes

Well, just like before you was playing tournaments. You cashed in $500 roughly. You don't really need to move up from the limits you was playing just yet if you don't want to risk donking of your money. I'm unsure of what your bankroll was, but assuming your keeping BR managment and playing $4 buy-ins you must of had around the figure you currently just won as well.

This would make your BR close to $1k? In which case you could and I personally would stick to the same limits I have been playing until you have played several 1000's until you get an understanding of your avg. ROI. You could try the $10.00 ones but you don't sound to confident in not blowing your roll. You need to be a bit more accurate on how many games and BR you currently have and so on for someone to comment on what you should do with your winnings. By the sounds of it, this is quite a big BR booster to you, so you might be just riding very good. For someone to move up you need to be comfortable with beating the limits you're currently at as opposed to just hitting a couple of big scores and doubling or tripling your BR.

Like I say,

just display your current amount of games played and ROI. Your Bankroll and how comfortable you are at the limits your currently playing.

Here's what I would do if I were you - and this is straight because I was just you, cashing a couple live MTT tourneys that got me $570 I didn't have before.

Invest in a coach!!! Figure out now (while you can afford it) if you just got lucky or can actually play at that level.

For me I know for a fact that in one of those tournaments I got more than my fair share of tripping up pocket pairs and hitting full houses - so no surprise I was in position to take down some cash.
The other one was the opposite - I wasn't getting anything, but still managed to get to final table (where I was as cold as ice - don't think I saw a single flop) and waited others out for a chop.

You have enough now - invest at least half of it into a coach to give you some new perspectives and strategies that should result in you getting it back soon. What's the worst that could happen?

Play whatever you think you're best at and whatever that game is, stick with solid bankroll management. Easy.

Don't invest in anything, unless you plan to do this for a living or part of your income.

And yeah, my usual advice is what C9 and OZ said, play whatever you enjoy most, and your likely to be better at it/work harder at it.

I would say that you haven't earned that much money yet, so hold off on moving up on the buy-in amount. I would stick to what you are succeeding in as of right now, it seems as though you are doing well in low buy-in omaha tournaments, and you said it yourself that the poor is pretty play. I would say master these lower stakes and learn some new strategies and then move up to higher stakes when you have a higher bankroll and are a better poker player. It will benefit you in the long run :)

Play what you like.

The above + play what you are good at {most of the time, learning more games cheap is good too} + play with money you care about {but not so much a loss will cripple you}

Dont change a thing, stick with your BRM and you cant go wrong. Maybe even go up a level, but just test the water first, you dont want to go drowning yourself.

WTG on good cash wins though.

Cheers. Decided i'm gonna go try the $5 SNG's on stars. I'm pretty confident in my SNG game and i've played well in the $3's. So i'm gonna play 20 $5 and if I totally suck i'll drop down again. If I show a profit i'll review my progress again.

Thanks for the help.

Spend like 90% of it on women, wine and good times. Then just blow the rest.

Old thread, but thanks for the support ImPro. Although I think variance + luck did have a little something to do with the cashes ;)

well done. looks like you can play omaha and enjoy it as well. Try a few games a step up in cash and see how you make out there. remember- more money means better players. (in general)

I woulda kept most if not all of it in the account so that I could get more. Just stay within your bankroll rules. Good luck with your future events you play.

ah ha ha ha ha... yah.. like 'invest' 90% ^... & blow the rest. Sounds good!

Poker is wayyyy more challenging when you 'MUST' win... instead of "meh.. I've got 100buyins.. SHIP IT!" Personally I like to transfer pretty much everything off my accounts, then know that I simply MUST win. (& I've been pullin' some monster 'min' cashes lately.... which is obv. evidence that it's working)

wtg on the scores btw! NICE!

Seriously, play a TON of games at the same buyin level you just scored in & perhaps play a bunch of the MiniFtops Sattys too.. & if doin' well in them, why not treat yourself to a few MiniFtops entries? (aside from the shot at a nice score, it might give you an idea of the skill level at marginally higher buyins... although MiniFTOPS... pretty sure you'll see a huge mix - - from guys who play all the sunday majors, to others who play the $1 Ferguson)

I would recomend you to play in the same level you are. If you can keep that great run for a while then play higher levels.
