Some tournaments players I know say it’s best to work out and eat healthy ect when playing a long tournament session but others say it’s best to smoke weed or have a little drink as it chills them out and relaxes them! So just wondering what is the best way to go about a long grind in online tournaments?

If your an alcoholic than drinking alcohol will improve your play. If you smoke cannabis regularly, than cannabis will help definitely help your play, especially sativa dominant strains.
But eating healthy and getting rest will help anyone. I think a person who never drinks or smokes is probably better off.

i used to smoke regularly and the only thing it helped with is the stress of bad beats if i was wasted i didn't care but my thought processes were up the wall. now i don't smoke and although bad beats get me stressed i find i get further in tournaments because i can think better.

Depends on the person actually. Personally I just get a warm drink and listen to some music to help me feel a bit calm. But if I had to choose, I'd prefer being healthy than being stoned.

Using an intoxicating substance will alter your poker effectiveness. Depending on the individual, this effect may be positive or negative. In order to determine effects it may have on you, consider how it could pottentially affect you/others and if it applies to you.

Using an intoxicating substance may cloud your judgment. It may become harder to remember exactly how your opponent has been playing. You may become easily destracted and complex mathematical equations may become more difficult.

Substances could improve overall emotion. This can really be helpful if you are prone to going on tilt after a loss. Improved mood can make your mind more clear, making critical thinking easier.

There is no way to determine how a particular substance may affect you, other than just trying it yourself. The experiences of others may vary, and might not be indicative of how it would affect you.

Ok, sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's toes here but it's a really, really childish question. A teen question to be more exact. You can get stoned anytime you want, you don't need to rationalize it. I've seen people saying that they drive better stoned. Yes people go that far.

If you're intoxicated you'll be a worse.. everything. It's a scientific fact.

And what scientific studies are you basing this "fact" on? "everything" is a very broad category, and simply cannot be determined on a large scale. This really is determined on an individual, case by case basis. There are plenty of factors that may diminish a players poker ability. If smoking cannabis alleviates stress and anxiety, the benifits may outweigh any impairment of critical thinking.

There are no childish questions. The only thing immature here is your response.

Not gonna dignify this with an explanation. The web, at least, is yours. Just hope when your crossing the street, the car that's comming isn't driven by a man who thinks that his ability to operate a vehicle whilst smoking pot, crack or any other drug, should be judged on a case to case basis.

Cheers!

I don't particularly mean that ones driving ability while under the influence should be evaluated on a case by case basis. Your statement is that you will be worse at everything. Specific actions should be determined on a case by case basis. I agree that you would be a worse driver and do not condone driving under the influence. I do not agree however that you will be worse at "everything", because that simply is not true.

Your statement is that you will be worse at everything, and instead specific actions should be determined on a case by case basis. I agree that you would be a worse driver and do not condone drivinf under the influence. I do not agree however that you will be worse at "everything", because that simply is not true.

So you basically expected me to make a list of every activity that a human can do. Ok, I admit, I was lazy and didn't do it, so I said 'everything' hoping you and others will be able to exclude things like sleeping, twerking, standing on the bed and watching a light bulb go out, etc.

Really, that's nitpicking a very decent and well intended post. The true intention was to make people reading it stop trying to gather benefits from doing drugs and then hiding behind them like "Ummm.. well mooooom, a dude on CardsChat told me I will make a lot of money by playing poker while smoking pot. Leave me alooooone."

And brother, it is a fact. If by natural selection we were better off with Ayahuasca streaming through our veins, we would all be shamans now. But hey, we aren't. Sure, there are some cases, recorded ones, where drugs like LSD or meth and even cocaine actually helped an individual to do an activity more efficiently, but that doesn't mean everyone should try it, just to see if they will get better at something.

Now about poker, the pros will probably tell you it's better to play it with a clear head. If you (a general you, not you you) want to be a better player, you might wanna try to be that while sober.

If you're still against me on this, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

sports and poker are two incomparable things! you have a lot to sit and think, sports brings your body to tone and gives health when the tournament goes 23 hours)

If a player is suffering from anxiety and stress, finding ways to aleviate that anxiety and stress can be a positive thing. Not a individuals can simply improve this aspect of their game on their own without the use of drugs. I agree that its in a players best interest to not have to rely on anything in order to play good poker. But if doing so actually increases your profitability, the reward may outweigh the risk. Regardless, the topic has enough merrit to be debated and should not be dismissed as a "childish question" .

You have to be relaxed before a tournament, eat something that is not very heavy, most of the brain is water, so you have to be well hydrated, to make good decisions.

I actually went to a live tournament one time all jacked up on coffee. My hands were literally shaking and the players at the table noticed. As soon as break hit, I had a beer to mellow me out a bit -- it stopped my hands from shaking.

In a long grind online tournament it is important to do something to make you feel calm and patience. It depends on the individual if they play better high or sober. Or watching a movie while playing in the tournament. Just do whatever it takes for you to stay focus through the long hours.

well in 'HIGH' school, I noticed I had "higher" test marks while stoned than straight.
I have noticed that I do play better after coming back from a medicinal break.
I'm not advocating anything for anyone, but you may want to try yoga to learn to breath while at the table. It will also help clear your mind and focus on what lies ahead. In a tournament that can be a long road.
Patients and time aggression from the right position are the key. If your head is too noisy with other things than the tournament your in. You will loose focus, you will run the risk of becoming frustrated and tilt.
If you don't have time for weed then maybe try a bong...

I've used the caffeine shakes to my advantage.
If a player whispers "look at his hand he must have a good hand", bingo your in.
Slow up your play and bet big at the larger pots and make sure to keep drinking coffee to keep up the big hand shakes

If you're a regular smoker, then sure, go play some poker and maybe you'll do well. Obviously not in a casino where substances of that sort of illegal. But online in the comfort and privacy of your own home, do whatever you want!
