Can it actually make sense to deliberately play worse?

well this will sound like an obvious answer but I have been finding it dilemma recently.

See I started playing hyper turbo heads up games and pushing the sage/nash range when <10BB

what i have noticed is often my oppenants do not know this range and are way to tight making it highly profitable to just push push push.

but these are the rec bad players and they never want to rematch if you do this.

where as if you put some post flop in at this stage you can get rematches.

i know when i went down my local some play was fishy but the regs deliberately allowed them to see flops to keep them coming back and would gang up on and punish those who tried to play standard poker.

if you get a fish is it best to crush them as soon as possible for everything you can take or is it better to let them get a bit more play in and crush them slower hoping to keep them longer?

play your best game and hope thy come back. There is noone to guarantee you that they will stick around if you make them feel like they have a chance to win. (thats assuming that they dont)

You should get rid of them ASAP or else they'll have more chances on crushing instead you if you keep them longer.

Yup this does happen at regular backroom / home games where if there is a newcomer then they want to let him taste success for a session or two. Some of the regular pro's deliberately don't play their best game against this newcomer. For instance they won't try to 3bet him often or at all and play weak poker against him post flop so that he thinks he can beat the game. They won't just give all their chips away but they let him win here and there.

This is so that he go home happy and comes back for more in the next few days. After a couple of sessions all the pro's know how he plays and then they try to put the heat on and before he knows what's happening he loses all his profits and is bringing more cash out of his pocket. Most of them go on like this until they can sustain the cash outflow but not all. Some are pretty good to fall for this and they adjust and play solid. :bandit:

If you play low levels there will alwayd be another fish.. just smash them and try to rematch. I know what you are saying though. I always say hi or hello when I play hu hypers. I have time to get some friendly chat in and a lot of the time I think I get an extra game or two out of them than if id said nothing.

I think not everyone is like this. Some want to play against the aggressive player with an edge in order to learn how to beat the said aggressor. That being said, a tight player will rematch, thinking variance will pay out or the "dry deck" will change for their fortune.

Consistency is a factor especially in poker, if you plan to play bad you must have a darn good reason as to why you are doing it and it better have a good outcome.

If you are crushing so much, why not try a higher stake?

There is often a lot to be said for letting a fish see a flop if their post flop game is weak, because you can often get more chips from them.

In an online hyper turbo HU setting, definitely no, playing worse can't really help you. Agree with WiZ, at low stakes HUs there will always be a massive pool of fish you can play against, therefore playing worse against a player to induce them to rematch you doesn't make much sense. I'm pretty sure most players won't rematch regardless if they don't win the first game.

idk, i dont know you may want to try min raise or limp stabs at those levels depending on the villan- you can probably pick up a little bit of ev

at 6 or 8 effective bbs think its probably a shove or fold

and i think if you got a fish on the line with good reads, you should keep them on the line as long as you can

Don't know if this belongs here but was in one tourney, on horrible tilt about 5 years ago...went in with 73 suited, all in, turned the flush.

it will not be just a bad game
you play looser because it is
not possible to wait for strong
hands In another case, the
blinds will take away your
whole stack

Fish, by definition, need to beat long, respectively, even in such a fast tournament need producer tries to make a postflop, be patient and wait.
