Playing the Carbon Poker 2014 freeroll last night. Had about 7500 in chips left, in middle position. Blinds at 1000/2000. I am dealt a pair of nines. It was folded to me. What is a good play here?

When under 10bb you can shove fairly wide, especially when there are less people left to act behind you. In this case, it's a snap shove 'cause you're only beat by higher pocket pairs and against other cards worst you can do is a coin flip.

There's no way you can do anything but to shove in this situation. Otherwise what are you going to do? Wait for AA?) And you want to do this from any position, not only from MP.

As others have said, shove all in. about 90% of the time you ahead. most of the time by a good amount.

If this is even a question at this point though then you have almost certainly played too tight in this point in the tournament to leave you short stacked to begin with. I have that problem too btw.

No way to make a minimum raise with 3.5BB left, so the only move is to go all in and no matter it was fold to you or not ....

Auto shove.

If one calls, cover the community cards with one of your hands and hope for the best.

easy shove
you had to shove earlier in my opinion
with less than 10bb you have to shove hands like 89s and any small pair

First, don't let yourself get down to only 3.5 bbs unless it's because you lost a big pot hopefully on a sick suckout. Allowing your stack to dwindle under 7bbs is almost criminal and is definitely negligent. At around 8 bbs or less, you should be shoving fairly wide in late position. Just ship it. even the 80/20 dog wins 20% of the time. when you have 13-20bbs, you have a nice reshove stack. Find a LAG, opening lots of pots and pick a hand to stuff in his face. Doesn't have to premium. odds are at worst you're a 60/40 dog. TJs, QJ, suited connters, all your premiums, probably down to AJo+. KQ and KJ can get you into a lot of trouble. Suited gappers. You're not going to win every tourney doing this but reshipping on the lags who are stealing blindes and antes is a good way to chip up. Pay attention to the table. Find someone who folds to 3bets. Sometimes you run into a buzzsaw but you'll be pleasantly surprised how often you will chip up.

as everyone else said, this is a shove, no other option. if you really didn't know the answer to this question (with that stack size) i'd suggest reading/studying tournament strategy, because if you're unaware of a basic strategic concept like this, you are probably unaware of many others. i hope this doesn't come off too harsh.

I believe that 9s (pocket nines) are definitely a shovable hand in your position. 9s are a great hand to get in your position of the game, as they guarantee a chance to double up (you have a reasonable hand, regardless of board). Also, the blinds were coming your way somewhat soon, so the chances of you receiving better cards than 2 nines, weren't in your favour. And the pot was folded to you, so that would increase the chance of everyone ahead folding, and you picking up the blinds. Hope you did well in the tourneament, though.

if you're short stacked, and ITM, then you have to push it a bit, change gear and push it

i dont know if there were antes, but with 3 less blinds you can feel comfortable getting it in, you may want to check and see if you are close to moving up the payout scale though(ie if antes will take guy out the next hand and move you up the scale etc)

I like to play against the players at the table. If the table chip leader calls wide range of shoves just to try and KO players I would shove but normally I prefer to take a chance on getting face cards, but you can't get upset about having the best hand preflop and losing. Got your chips in with a very good chance to double.

100% open shove. If you have such few blinds (you can keep in mind 10 or less) and you have the possibility to open shove with a pair, you should do it 100% if the time. Changes are small you are going to get a better hand than that in only those few hands you will still get.

Easy shove even with T9s because already in money. Those prize structures occasionally make it wise to fold some marginal hands during bubble, but this woukd usually be a shove even during bubble.

The strategy of short stacks avoids complex game situations. If you still do not feel the poker pros, you do not make mistakes, following her. Let take difficult decisions and make mistakes rivals, playing against your strategy of short stacks.

I disagree with the board totally but im a flop player if people allow me to see flops I am gonna win generally the more I see the more trouble I am for a field of players. I would call the blind here not all in or shove.

I want to see the flop determine where stand do hit my set? Is there an over is board akq? Etc..

If someone comes over top of me I would generally call but is more involved how strong is table what are other stacks what notes have on them is it loose or tight etc..

You need to know these things are pockets holding up lately etc..?

I play to get to final 3-4 people where the real money is each position moves up a lot of cash I am buildiing a bankroll from freerolls so longer I last better I am even if blinded out.

Is just me,,, if had a bankroll of 2000 dollars would be thinking a bit differently but for me pennies matter right now since back online for six weeks.

So is more involved overall that is part of the equation I think people are wayyyy tooo loose in general at final tables and think most times because of patience I come out way ahead of what I should.
