If you won the WSOP Main Event, would you quit poker or raise the stakes?

Based on a very interesting thread I decided to create this one. The original is 'If you won the lottery, would you quit your job??? Why or why not?'. Thanks to @RiverLord90 who made it.

My ideia with this thread is to understand the motivation of you guys when it comes to play the poker game. Is about passion? Is about fun? About some bucks?

So, If you beat the large Main Event field in the world series of poker and put 10 millions in your pocket (no stacking, no backing, just you receiving this incredible prize 100% yours)...

...Would you stop playing poker or raise the stakes?

In my case I have no doubt: raise the stakes every time. ;)

Why quit. You would be guaranteed freerolls galore to every tournament, appearance fees and buy ins on the house, celebrity status and comps infinite, if promoted right.

I would stash the cash and bleed the fame and grow as a player. The only hard thing would be to not Brat out Helmuth style and keep head from growing too big.

Lol, not only would I quit poker I would quit my day job instantly, like you don't even know, I would be in the middle of the floor celebrating before I even took the picture with the bracelet calling in to work "Hey I ain't coming back to work, EVER!" I would still coach somewhere but I don't know if it would still be at my current high school after I would quit that way but I would be done with my day job forever. This was an easy answer for me because it's the same thing I would do if I won the lottery, it may not be the same amount of money but it would be the same result.

I think it is a feeling people are searching for. I can feel like a million bucks playing CC freerolls and make a dollar. What is the motivation one wants from it?

If I were a professional I would continue playing . Now, a fish like me would continue to play just for fun in cheap tournaments.

If you're good enough to win the wsop main event, you know you're good enough to play in bigger live tournaments and win again.

Of course you need to invest most of the money in something safe, like property and make sure you have enough left to enjoy life for years to come.

But if I won I would start playing in other big live events. As long as I enjoy the game.

I would continue, and try for more action, at this level! The money would give me the opportunity to go higher!

To tell the absolute truth, I'd rather be fishing. I might come back and play Main Event and maybe a couple other World Series events every year. I wouldn't be grinding though.

I would certainly keep playing poker, I love playing this game, I love teaching this game, heck... I love everything about this game!

I don't think I'd raise the stakes though, keeping the buyins at $10k is probably the most reasonable play, no need to go butt heads with those super high roller stars like Ali Imsirovic and Charlie Carrel! :call2:

If I won the WSOP Main Event, I would have gotten there through some sort of cheap satellite, or lucky draw. I don't have $10,000 to invest in my poker game.

Winning would be a miracle, and the cash would certainly make my retirement more comfortable.

I would continue to play poker online with my friends, live with my friends, and at casinos. There would be the temptation to play for higher stakes but I play the game to win, not create a lifestyle.

Don't you mean when..?

I'll keep playing, without a doubt, but won't raise the stakes necessarily..

My goal is to start my own charitable organisations and have as much of a positive impact on the world as possible, the money will help!

I'd never want to stop playing though...

Maybe something like six months on, six months off would allow having the best of multiple worlds.

Now we're really talking about Gladstone Gander territory, haha!

I would not give up playing poker. I would go on. But most likely he would not immediately raise the stakes. WSOP win once is not enough

I think that if I went up to wsoop I would probably continue to play further, as this money is not endless ... Well, this is my opinion...

Hey.
I would continue to play poker, but I would not play at breathtaking heights. I would play an average of 11-85 dollars, sometimes with high stakes up to 215-530 dollars. And would have made several trips to several live tournaments per year. But I would not devote much time to the game. And he devoted more time to his relatives and friends, engaged in self-improvement on the spiritual plane.

If I've won, I believe I'll slowdown a bit.. maybe play to spend few hours and have a nice time.. wouldn't mind about being that focused on winning I think. But its just a thought right?! I mean.. maybe it's completely the opposite and I feel like playing more because I proved myself that it's possible

Neither. I would keep playing - would probably add more WSOP events in the summer but would still play around the same level as now.

I would invest a large majority of the money I won and play poker professionally with the money I would get off the interest and dividends from my investments.

I would keep playing. And you can be DAMN sure that I would wear the obnoxious bracelet to my weekly $20 home game.
