[old link~tb]

It was supposed to be an intro and use of SNG wizard, but mostly it's just equity stuff. It explains most of the points of ICM, and understanding equities. Warning, it isn't very well written :p.

Knowing what ICM is, is one thing; its practical application is another. Unless you are some sort of maths genius you are going to struggle to do the sums in the middle of a hand.

What you can do is to look at hands (real or imaginary) with an ICM calculator to hand, and work out if you made to correct decision. For example, you have 12BB in SB in a STT, 3 people left, you have Axs and big stack button shoves for the umpteenth time. Using your best guess at bigstack's range (ATC?) you can work out whether the 60% times you double up are worth more in $ than folding. Do this exercise as many times as you can stand and you'll soon get a feel for how ICM applies in typical situations.

It took me quite a while before I started to get comfortable with ICM. If you fool with the options in SNGWIZ I think you can set up spots with x number of bbs(5bbs or 7bb or what ever you choice). I'd try setting up a quiz with only 10bb spots answer 20-25 questions and study study study all those 25 spots. Don't worry if you got the right or wrong answer just make sure your learning about those spots. Change every variable you can think of and try to understand why it effects your ranges. Also when your in game mark hands your not sure of and review those spots. But studying 20 spots a day you'll learn it quick enough.
