Been playing some 45 man 50c turbos on stars and after 39 games I won a game woo hoo!

Should have a few interesting hands, I often feel a bit weak, not aggressive enough in certain spots, probably not willing to flip in the middle of the game as I should.

Anyway lets see if I can get some ROI going.

Heres a hand from the tourney that I was wondering if I should have called. He's likely to push with AK or a pair, but he only needs overcards for a flip. Even if I dont give him a pair but give him all overcards I get 53%. Im not sure how good giving him that range is but I felt we'd be flipping and that I might be a teeny little bit ahead. Can you call this or is it a pretty simple fold?

Prob should have put this in HH.

Clearly a fold...
Not even considering a call, due to the stack sizes + he's not that loose, so no need to risk the chip lead for that call.
Is he shoving 55 utg? I don't think so...
Is he shoving JQs utg? I don't think so...
And at best you'r flipping for most of your stack so not even considering a call at that stage..

And congratz on your win

Fold. You're probably flipping, but if so, you're only slightly ahead. Otoh, if it's pair vs pair, you're well behind much more often than you're well ahead. Factor in that in terms of how chip value works in tournaments, winning his would help you less than losing the hand would hurt. It looks tempting to call, but it's not the proper decision based on the info provided.

Basically, best case scenario is that you are flipping. Much worse is you are against an overpair, and because of that a call is in the long run -EV.

Calling hands like this is I think one of the main things you need to learn not to do to make it from someone who knows a bit and is ok at the game to someone who is a decent player. Becoming good needs a good understanding of the maths, and understanding things like ICM and so on.

I would say V this tight player from UTG you are at 40% at best, why 'gamble' when youre not ahead. Number one rule in these games, always try to get it in first you have two ways to win :p

Yeah. Best case scenario you are flipping, worst case scenario they have a higher pair and you gotta hit a set. It's always a little hard to fold a pair, but I would definitely wait for a better spot

I take it this is 5 left in a 45man?
ICM considerations, two really shortstacks having 3 & 4bb's would dictate a fold here w 66 (imo).

And now another question:
What would you be calling here with in this spot? (where's Wizzim?)

btw, wtg on the win!:)

Calling range need JJ+ AK+, possibly slightly wider, by ICM, I think.

Depending on the money involved, and especially in the SNGs I play, I do widen it if I think players understand ICM. Because if they do, then you need to widen as it is the only way to counter ICM. Of course if you have 5 players and only 2 know ICM, you can use ICM to the letter.
Problem is when everyone uses ICM to the letter, then there is no skill involved as it comes down to a simple who walks into a hand which calls first, which is pure luck.....
