Really depends on how quickly you want the game to move along. I used to hold bi-monthly tournaments for a group of about 10-15 at my home. We typically would start with 3k chips, 25/50 blinds, and raise blinds every 15 minutes. These games would typically be over in about 3-4 hours

Hm... I think that you should start tournament with about 75BB, it is about 1500 chips blinds 10/20 at the beginning, like normal tournament for example at pokerstars. Blinds could have more than 15min, because in reality a lot of time you will be need to shuffle cards. (you will waste your time on shuffle cards).

First is to see how many people will play, in the case of 20 people is viable start with 2000 chips, 15 min change bb.

Do so and you will have a beautiful tournament!

(you will waste your time on shuffle cards).

run the game with two decks to alleviate this, basically use a blue deck and a black deck. so the sb can have the second deck ready to be dealt out as soon as the current hand is finished up. Saves on shuffling time and allows to get more hands in especially when dealing with blinds raising in a tourny.

This goes well in cash as well, damn i love live poker with the guys haha. running two decks is awsome, but might take a little adjusting to but makes the game run better with more hands, specially if used to online and the quickness between hands once they are over.

Nice solution! Faster hands , for a example to save 30m per tuournament will be nice. Anyway to organize 20 people is a nice number :)
We play 6-7 max and split all chips on eaqual numbers and start to playing with 15min blinds up.

When we have them at home we do multiple $10 sng's. We usually start with about 1600 chips and 25-50 blinds that increase every 10 minutes.

If we have too many people for 1 table we do 2 separate ones - or you could make it a 2-table sng.

This ended up being way more popular than playing cash games and means some people can leave earlier etc. We usually end up playing 3 sng's by the end of the night.
