Hey Guys!

I Have been playing poker for about half a year now, and I have never reached a Finaltable. Most of the time when i play tourneys i bust a few hands after ITM.

Do you guys have any guides, videos or other things that can help me?
And do i need any tool to become a winning pokerplayer?

Thanks...

Have you read any NLHE tournament books?

That's one way...Also if your constantly making ITM, than it's not really an issue for you to play well, it may seem like your lacking in the aggression department? I mean hell, If I could constantly get back (Buy-in+), I'd be happy with that alone:D , but life seems to have a different plan for me...

As P.O said read books, tons of free videos online...

Last but not least practice and really hone your game to a point where your not just making ITM, but making deep runs, and just go from there...

GL and congrats on making ITM

Are you just playing really tight and letting the blinds take you down? Are you just folding hands because your close to the money and don't want to bust?

I would suspect that you aren't playing enough hands or winning a lot of pots.

You need to be at least stealing the blinds and antes once an orbit mid tourney or you will blind out.

You should observe good players how they do it, and maybe play some smaller mtt fields and you will reach more final tables :)
Because MTT variance is brutal, thats why playing high volume (and playing well !) is also necessary.

like daniel says
try 18-180 man sitngos for awhile
naruto and aero are right too, more aggression and opening your range deeper in is a must,
play position accordingly too
there is many books and vids all over- stuff here too
read, watch your hand histories and see what spots are costing you, or that you're not exploiting...

Yes also are you multi tabling? Try using a single table and taking notes on how the players are betting and take notes every time you see cards at a showdown whether you are in the hand or not so you can put your opponents on a range of hands and know that you have a better hand than theirs :) read read read :)

Close to the bubble is the best time to be aggressive. No one wants to bust out at that point. Push in LP when you think you can steal the pot. Even on big stacks, they don't want to lose any going ITM

Late stages aggression is the key, alot of player try to hang on for the money. So this is the time to take advantage of that.

i have been losing the past month but doing better recently and have also made a decent number of final tables. i only started playing a year ago and around 8 months ago online so i was in a similar position. my first final tables came in mtt sng's, so i would recommend playing in some of those- the 180 man ones give you the most realistic feeling of reaching a ft as the 45 man ones don't even pay all of it!
so yeah, my progression was- reaching final table of mttsng, losing heads up, then eventually winning one, and then reaching a low stakes mtt one. so i would recommend doing something similar. i don't have a clue what stakes you play but my first ones were the $1.10r turbo which usually gets 6 or 700 players and the field is fairly soft, i came 10th last night actually having not played in it for ages. also the 1000 cap $1.10 is similar in terms of a weak field and i have won that and final tabled it 3 times. so i would recommend playing the 180 man sng's then low buy ins with around 1000 players or less so that you have a chance of making a ft.
also, i often watch the poker pro's on pokerstars, not sure if you play on this site but if you don't i would strongly recommend you do. especially the really good mtt players like pessagno, maxim lykov and mement morri. and sometimes i watch Moorman1 aswell as he is also one of the best and usually makes a few final tables a day.
and finally, a player called andre coimbra is doing a challenge on MTT's, he basically didn't play these until the start of this year. he is trying to turn $100 into $100k before the end of the year, and is at $20k so far! he has a blog which describes him playing the micro mttsng's and then as he moves up, also on youtube he has a series of great videos that are running just now, a series for like the $0.50 etc. and the one he is doing just now which is for the lowstakes and he actually wins the $1.10r $60k gtd. for $10k so watching this will give you a great feeling and insight into what it takes to win one.
this is long, hope i helped!

There are lots of videos on youtube for strageties on tournament play. One of the great things is being able to watch tournaments on television and watching the way players play based on position and stack size based on how far the torunament is in progress

I cannot say enough good things about "The Poker Tournament Formula" by Arnold Snyder. It's geared more for live trnys, but does tell how to adjust for online play. If you take anything away from that book, learn the basic position strategy. The rest you can put into your own game as you wish.

Everyone in this thread just assumes your getting in the money by being conservative, thereby assuming that you have little chips, leaving you few options when you finally get ITM.

I guess what I'm asking is how much do you usually have? Average, above average, or just cashing by the skin of your teeth.

I find that I really have to break MTT's down into 3 stages, and each stage requires an adjustment in play. Start to cash, then cash to FT, then FT. If you have no practice playing with bigger antis and blinds the ending stages of a MTT can seem a bit daunting. Also as you get deeper you obviously would run into presumably better players, with more experience in these stages. Practice practice practice.
