About 3 years ago I hit my biggest score for over 3.5K in a FT MTT. Ever since then I've never been able to remotely come close to duplicating the feat. If I look at my stats I've been able to continue to play these tournies because I've been a winning SnG Player and thus funds these MTTs. So common sense would tell me to quit the MTT's and just grind away at the SnGs. I know this is the right thing to do but the allure of the big score just keeps me coming back again and again.

Has anyone else found the same thing and been able to just focus on the grind and not the big score?
Thanks

That's the nature of MTT. I wouldn't stop playing just because you haven't cashed big in a while.

I'm an MTT player and know the downswings can be pretty sick. If you are playing well, the results will come.... eventually. It can be really disheartening to go a long time without a decent score but you just have to keep playing well and getting your money in good.

Keep grinding your SNGs and maybe start playing smaller field MTTs. There are some 360, 500 and 1000 cap games on stars that are alot easier to win than the ones with huge player pools. What stakes do you play?

What kind of sample size are you talking about? 3 years can mean any number of tournaments.

And at what levels? If your big score came at a higher level than you usually play, and you've stayed there, you may be playing above your skill level. It certainly wouldn't be the first time instance of someone translating one result into an optimistic expectation that more will follow.

SNGs and MTTs are mechanically pretty different, so it's definitely possible to be a winner in one and a loser in the other, but as people have said, sample size could be an issue (and this could work both ways). While SNGs are relatively low variance and MTTs relatively high, you need a large sample for both to be sure of where you stand.

Ive got accounts at Cake, Carbon and Bovada.
Im playing mainly the $10 buy ins and less. Cake and Carbon are a bit frustrating with their low traffic. It seems to take forever to fill up a 180 person tourney.
Bovada has the larger traffic but with their new software you never know if you're against some regulars or not. You can keep notes on the players but that's just good from tourney to tourney.

you may want to review your MTT approach, like others have said, if you are playing the same as you do in SnG, you might have to modify

i find that MTTs require great discipline and also you have to be opportunistic, but hey your hit was more than i've won combined MTT, so you are either in a rough downswing due to variance or your game just needs the slightest of tweaks here or there
