Blinds: 20/40
Stack: 1090 (roughly 30 BB)

Pre-flop: I have pocket kings in the SB. 3 limpers in front of me so I raise 5x and get one call whose stack was around 2385 (60 BB).

Flop:Ac 7s 5d
Knowing that the villain had been limping any two cards since I sat down the ace wasnt a scare card so I shove for two reasons: 1. So my kings could get paid if he calls 2. I could just take down the already big pot right there. Villain calls and shows 6h4h.

Turn: 3h
Turns his straight for the suck out.

River: Ah
Rivers the flush to throw salt on the wound.

Could I have played this hand differently or did I just have the misfortune of a bad beat?

Was that freeroll tournament? If you watched him play and was sure he didn't have ace you played it ok but for me personally if I get to flop with pocket kings and ace pops up I pretty much surrender very easily especially if preflop was already raised because the odds your opponent has ace are quite high at that point.

The outcome is irrelevant, that`s just a beat.

I don`t like the shove, though. I reckon that drives out anything but a strong Ace or a set. In other words, the only hands that call are ahead of you (Villain is apparently an idiot, firstly to call your raise with trash pre-flop. and then to call the all-in with an up-and-down).

Probably just check it. I don`t too much like shutting down on the flop in this kind of situation, because it looks weak and practically invites the opponent to take the pot away with a bet, but the alternative is to bet around 300-400 (which is an alarmingly big slice of your remaining stack) to see if that shakes him off and, if it doesn`t, where are you then ?

Yea it was a freeroll. I was pretty sure he didnt have the ace cuz he had been playin every hand. If he did have it well i would just have to live with running into aces.

ya in anything else but a freeroll this is terrible play, but with players liable to call off with anything its definitely worth a shot!

Need preflop push , because your raise more than 30% stack..

I actually like the shove as you had a decent read on the guy and he did call your raise with trash.

Flop was a beeatch, not only did you get an ace it also gave him an OESD. You were right in your read that this guy wouldn't have an ace, so I believe the all in was right, you were just unlucky that the idiot called the shove chasing his draw and gets it. Donks really do have their day!!

GL @ the tables :)

Why 5bb? In this situation, if any of the limpers was going to call 5bb, how much more could you have bet without significantly reducing the probability of getting called? If he would have called more, say 7bb or even 10bb, it would have been better to make it more. Not that it would change the result; it's better because when an opponent is equally likely to make an error or a larger one, you should give him the chance to make the larger one.

Don't worry too much about giving a bet sizing tell. Many players won't notice or won't remember, and even those who do have to still be at your table in a similar situation (which may not even occur) plus they have to be in the hand to take advantage.

I would have raised 3BB or shoved all-in pre-flop, dependent upon how large the field was but with KK, you were just dealt a low blow. And, as stated, a FR requires a whole different mindset ;)
