I was playing a live tournament at my local casino and it was down to 19 players I had around 15k in chips and was holding 66. second to last to act everyone limped so I rasied to 3k blinds were 500-1k, folded around to person to my right who called. flop came 277, she thought then pushed all in for 6500, I tanked for about 5 minutes then called, she showed 29 off turn came 9 river brick. I think I made the right call, its been bugging me tho

I think you made the right call , but the opponent was very lucky. She played really bad , but she got very lucky. It's so frustrating when it happens...

You made the right call against her actual hand. However, the proper question is whether you made it vs her range. So what did you think her range was?

I would need more info to say if it was the right play. Stack sizes in relation to blinds and how many limped in .

At least the villain thinks she made a great play and will hopefully do this again many times in the future.

With all those limpers, when it came time for you to act I'm not sure I would have raised with 66. With only 15 bb's behind, a raise reduces your stack to the point you are in a grey area in terms of being pot committed. In my opinion you might be better off folding in this spot most times. A set mining limp wouldn't be a terrible play given the pot odds though.

It turned out you made the right move pre-flop but it didn't work out. Its a tough beat but that's a part of poker.

You made the right call:

You were winning the pot at that exact time. So, strategically, you won the pot. Technically, you lost the pot because of luck. There is nothing you could have done differently to have a different outcome.

Thank you for all the responses. I usually don't raise with small pairs like that, but I knew from play that day that I could get people to fold, we were down to 7 at our table, we had just lost 2 so I knew people would be kinda tight after that. I did not put her on a hand like 29o. That's ok though like was said just got unlucky. Probably be back there tonight, now I know what she will shove with so can be a little more cautious. Thanks again everyone.

don't focus on the result, focus on the play. There were only 5 cards left for her to have a better hand (three 9 and two 2), and only turn and river left. In the long run, you would have won 4 out of 5 times approx, so you made the right move, even though you lost. Remember to focus on the play, and not on the result.

You've got 15bb's and "EVERYONE" has limped! Raising to 3x is going to do nothing in this spot except make your flop decision more difficult (it's likely going to set off a calling train... because everyone has already 'called' pre & you haven't raised enough to keep most of them from coming along (& they will be correct to call in many cases... depending upon what they were calling with in the first place, beause you're giving them the odds to do so).
I think in this spot preflop I would just shove allin preflop (you have 15bb's facing a bunch of limpers... even if you get called you're likely flipping making it extremely worth it).
I'd prefer calling over raising 3x pre

Shove >> call >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> raise 3x

Yes you made the right call. No way you can fold in that spot.

I completely agree with Poker Orifice here. Your raise makes it look like you might be stealing. With pocket sixes for me in this spot, I fold or shove. No other options for me.

Absolutely agree with this. In addition, if you are going to raise 3x, you should already know when you do it whether you'll call or fold if each opponent shoves. So no reason to tank. If there's a shove plus one or more calls, it's a fold. But as PO said, you shouldn't have been in this situation in the first place.

I think a preflop shove or call would have been better at that stack size leaning more towards the shove.

i always say that the 1st mistake is the worst mistake. in this hand you have 15000 . you say that everyone limped and blinds are 500 1k. if you got 3 limpers and the blind money that is adding a third times bigger to your stack if you dont have to see a flop. if it were me i am either going to try and flop a 6 and limp along with the rest and give up my 1000 if i dont flop a 6 to any bet, or try to put the 4500 in my stack right now and push.raising to 3000 is only inviting trouble . in this case she called your 3000 intending to go allin on the flop to any flop most likely. as for you calling her bet after she called your preflop raise and then pushing the flop, i just cant say that i would have felt i had the best hand right there, but at any rate i believe the mistake was preflop more than post flop
