So I started to play this Super Turbo thing and was trying to figure out the best strategy.

I had this hand happen.

Obviously I folded the best hand, but I had to assume that one of the other 3 players had a better Ace. Also, I had more than 1/2 of my starting stack, so I opted to fold. If it was equal or less, I fold.

What should I have done? And WHY? I appreciate all the input, but anything explanations would be extremely valuable to my learning process.

Thanks!

this was either a shove preflop or a fold preflop... after a limp this hand is a fold for me..

why? because everyone starts with only 10bb's limping it out of the question. UNLESS you have a monster and want action.. you simply cant limp prelop and call another 90 and then fold.. you just spewed half of your stack and that is costly..

id fold preflop as a4suited isnt really a strong enough hand after someone limped in.. with so many players to act behind.. i think its a fold preflop for me.. likely someone wakes up with a bigger ace or pair.. but if you decided to play.. shove it in preflop.. its the only move you have..

Your playing with 10BB stacks.
You should never be calling or open raising.
Your only move is all-in or fold.

Also u didnt fold the best hand, u folded a hand with 27% equity while geting 4,7-1. While u obvs couldnt know u had 27% equity, limp/call/folding is still horible there imo.

But all that doesnt matter since u should never be in this spot.
Superturbos by nature mean your should only jam or fold.

Fold and Jam during the earlier rounds when everyone is around is at the same stack size. When you've build a nice stack and its short handed, you can include min-raises as a part of your arsenal. Can be just as affective as shoving without risking all of your stack.

As for the hand, The limp in is horrible. This is a definite fold/shove situation preflop. Lean more towards the fold both before and after the raise. Even with a 10BB starting stack, you still want to enter the hand with a decent-strong starting hand and when facing raises, the gap concept still applies. So, you might open shove in mid position with A10, but you probably dont want to call an EP shove with A10 a lot of the time.

With A4, you're usually beat a lot of the time or you're not a huge favorite to win. In the hand, you're losing (preflop) to KK, 88 and you're only ~60/40 vs QJ. Nothing great. So, in the earlier rounds, you do want to tighten up the opening hand requirements a bit just because most opponents call ranges are so wide. You still have some time to double up, even if you drop down to say 240 or so. You still have a significantly sized stacked. Try looking for situations where you shove big hands against a lot of callers; JJ+, AKs or you're shoving mid-good hands vs smaller number of callers. 66+, A8+, K10+, etc.

i played a few of these super turbos on fulltilt, and i am actually winning, but i never call, all in or fold preflop, call only when you are heads up and you are about even stacks.

Does anyone have a successful winrate with a big sample size with these...? The variance must cause huge swings no matter what...

I would've done the same thing why risk it on a chance of being beat by a kicker especially when your sitting at a good position in the table. If you lost you would've been at a very bad spot in the table. By the way did you place.

Thanks Philly. Actually, I did place. Whatever the lowest cash was, that's what I got.

in the super turbos the first 3 or 4 times around the table are just like any other tournment. A4 suited is not a hand I would even consider playing unless I was desprate and short stacked. play only the priemium hands AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ, AJ, KQ. Position does not mean much in these since many people play all in or fold. if you double up or triple up you can sit back and watch the carnage. when it gets down to 3 or 4 you can start playing again.
