Here is an interesting hand I'd like to get input on. It was early in a HUSNG. A player I had never played before. No real read except he made a couple marginal calls early to put himself in a small hole.

Hero in SB. leading 1753 chips to 1247. blinds 10/20.

Preflop;

hero raises to 50
Opp calls;

I know this is a weak hand but I raise most hands with position from the SB until my opponent gives me a reason to adjust.

Flop: 8h, Qd, 8c
Opp check, hero raise 66, opp call

Turn; 3 of club
opp check, hero raise 116, opp raise to 232, hero raise to 580, opp call

River; 4 spade
opp all in (551) hero????

would appreciate thought about how to play the river and if you would have played the hand differently. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I can't see how the river card changes anything, unless he was chasing with 44 and was lucky to get a full house. I think I would have shoved the flop or the 4 bet at the turn. The way you played it suggests you believed you were ahead and didn't have opp on QQ, A8 or K8 - hands that are shovable HU preflop. or 33.
I think if I had played 85off I would have shoved the flop.

Shoving the flop will only get you a call from your pokersite asking why you played the hand so badly.

Thanks Caesura. I don't play 5 8 off every time but I think it's pretty standard to raise most hands from the SB in HUSNG: I def thought I was value betting the flop. I couldn't rule out any of the hands you mentioned but when he checked the flop I put his range at almost any 2 cards. After he smooth called my bet I thought some queen was most likely. This was partially based on that I saw him call down bottom and middle pairs earlier.

Would you really bet 1200 to take down a 100 pot though? I question that because it seems like he would only call with the hands qq or 8x and you get no value if he has a hand like kq. With a rainbow flop there are no good draws on this board I wasn't overly worried about another card coming down. Worst would be another q, seemingly but most likely if I was ahead before the turn I would be ahead after the turn based on this board. Thoughts?

this hand i believe he had you til the flop,im betting nothing over qk qa,also once he saw there was no club flush at the river he donked his chips hapilly giving them to you,but thats just my humble HIGHLY optimistic opinion

yeah i think you played it well and he was just trying to rep the 8. I would probably snap call this and if he has a full house then so be it, but those times will be so rare that calling it will be profitable.

That looks like a harsh one.

I would have played it similarly to how you did. However I am thinking opp wins here just because you posted it in the forum other wise it would be like ya i won of course.

What set did the opp have and could you have determend that he had that set without going all in?

My guess. He had 33 or maybe but prob not QQ the turn back and forth play makes me think this. Think it was great play on the turn with lots of info but if you dont fold to his re-raise here basically you are in it and going to call anything on the river(unless you have air). Tough spot hard lay down on the turn and good play by opp on river if he trapped you.

Thanks guys. After much thought I did call, he flipped ace 8 and won with a better kicker. He then asked me if I was drunk. LOL
