For as long as I've been playing online poker, I have yet to invest in a HUD. Any time I see a player not using HUD, I give them kudos.

Will it really improve my game? I'm doing fairly well as it is - taking notes, remembering reg styles.

What is the min/max investment to make? The thing I don't want is buyer's remorse.

Do you use HUD? Why or why not?

I don't use HUD because I believe that just because it is online poker doesn't mean we should be using softwares to improve our game.
Not saying HUD is bad, I might be using one in the future as well. But right now it is fun without it. Professional grinders playing many tables at a time require HUDs more.

I have used a HUD (PT4) but don't like it and don't use it anymore. They are probably great for grinders who are playing a dozen tables at a time and can't possibly remember, or even notice who did what when. Personally I prefer to keep track of the other players the same as you have been doing, i.e., through personal observation and note taking. You can pick up on subtle things that a HUD will never record. Also, I was finding the HUD to be distracting to the point where I was not noticing the subtleties anymore.

I used the trail of PT4 for holdem there is a lot of info and good info on there im sure however my mind does not work with number like they are showing so i don't use it i just go with my gut so to speak and its a big gut so it cant be wrong haha. I'm sure for someone playing cash game 8-10 tables at a time that knows and loves the numbers i'm sure its an amazing tool to have and use after you learn how to use it.

HUD is a very nice tool for those who play a lot of volume and lots of tables at the same time. Not so useful in MTT IMO, but i need to try it

I believe that to dedicate in the preparation is better than to use the HUD.

HUD is a great tool if you can't be watching the players at your table and to analyze your game stats. but i think they are a very expensive tool if you are going to play only microstakes.

A HUD is a useful tool and within the allowed limits I'm willing to try and use anything that can make me better/more profitable. Saying you don't want a HUD because you think it shouldn't be allowed doesn't make other people not using it. If you are playing against someone with a HUD while playing without it yourself, and if you have both more or less the same level, the other player will have an edge.

Silly not to use a HUD im my opinion gives you a great general overview of the opponents you are playing against. However there is always the exception , of course everyone gets a great hand or hooks up on a draw so of course you have to use the best poker tool ever your brain.

HUDs are great tools to use, but not necessarily for everyone.

I've tried using them and I personally don't like them, but more power to those who do use and like them. I don't think there is anything wrong with them, I just found them to be more of a distraction for me.

Use the 30 day free trial and give it a shot.

I think it replaces your natural ability to track what your opponents are doing. Beause it does it for you. I tried HUD for a while and then afterwards I entered a live poker tournament. I just sat there clueless, watching people with no inner thoughts or strategy. I just played my cards and that didn't go well. Like fold when you got nothing, call or raise when you have. But I could never make a move because I could never get a read of my opponent or recognize when he was as weak as me or whatever. Might just be my bad memory spooking.

exactly! a HUD will only cloud my brain, i think. in the very least how long is it going to take to actually implement - to trust it...

agreed. i've only seen one high stakes pro - so far - play without HUD on twitch. even ppl in the $10 & up use it.

no it's not just your bad memory! i swear, that's another thing i don't want to lose out on. online is rehearsal for the live show - for me. HUD might just be for online players only?

it's pretty simple, you have to be able to make your investment back and then some. so it depends what you want to do with poker, yes it will help you improve but only if you take the time to spend working out how it can improve your game.

for most people it's basically a waste of money, but if you are serious about grinding online poker it's pretty much a must buy.

in most cases spending 50-100 on tracking software isn't really worth it when they are playing sub $3 games or playing one or two games per day/week.

In my opinion HUD worsens Your skill to play live poker. When You looking only on hud stats, not try to noticing how opponents play, than what in live game? There is no hud.
Playing without it increase Your skill of reading opponents.

Hud is very important for grinders who playing a lot tables in the same time

the reason i would get a hud is to free up time instead of having to write notes every minute or two or spending hours poring over your hand replays you can just let the hud sit there and gather stats and keep your note taking to just being little quirks about that specific player
personally i would like to be able to have a graph on each player with positions along the bottom and the hands that they have played from that position this is the best way to identify someone's range but takes a lot of time if i have a hud then i can spend time just noting this information down while the hud collects all the percentage data
I have been playing poker for 4 years and only used a hud for 2 months free trials but i found them to be a great help no matter what level you play at and last time I checked PT4 had a cheaper microstakes version available that was only for microstakes playing

I don't use a hud, but I don't play 8-10 tables at a time either. I do take notes when I notice a play that is non-standard or just a general color code for loose vs. tight players. I think a hud can be beneficial if used correctly, but I am currently working on my hand reading skills and think it would be distracting to me at this point.

you can set your HUD up to do the exact thing you are talking about. I generall have a column devoted to what ranges they play in co, button and the SB, but these are only really good if you have a few thousand hands on a player, otherwise it's just skewed data.

A few thousand?!!
That's a lot.
I don't have more than a few 100 on some people and that's by playing a few months a few times per week.
Do you play so much with the same people, or is did you just build it up over years playing every day?

Depends what games you play, and what time. But when i used to play getting a few thousand only took a few days or a week at most depending on how many games i would load with the same player.

The thing is i'd be playing 12-15 at once with the same players on most of the tables, so 1-2k hands really isn't that much when you think about it.

But the point is, the more hands you have on players the more those intricate stats will be to you to give you a good picture of his overall ranges from certain positions. Like if a player reads from CO-15 pfr Btn-25 pfr and SB- 80pfr i would attack him almost everytime he raised my BB just because i knew his range was way to weak to continue to any pressure. but that's only if i had at least 1k hands or more on him to make sure. if i only had a few hundred i would be less inclined to make moves on him based on his stats.

You have to be pretty careful on which stats to put in and how to inperpret them though, i spent hours upon hours adjusting and refining my HUD setup, it takes time to get it right for you, but once you do it's so much easier in game.

Never used one and probably but more likely i will never use one, coz it turns me in to a softy, relying too much on the hud for info can make a lazy asss out of any good poker player, so instead of letting my ass go lazy i do the job my self constantly watching to wats happening to my table, one more thing for all those people who are useing huds or plan to use one, what will u use when u sit down and play live poker??? :D So no, i am against huds
