Nothing beats practice, practice, practice combined with what ever form of study you learn best from, videos, books, reviewing hand histories, reading threads in CC & commenting and or asking questions. Keep in mind that your focus should be on improving your decision making & not on your results. Winning is a result of study & solid play but an individual win or high placement does not mean you have arrived. One of the joys of poker is there is always room for improvement.
good luck.

Studying is very important, but if you are new player I can give some practical advises. First things first tighten up. You are probably playing too loose. Second, remember, size of the pot should be correlated to the strength of your hand. Third, bluff with hands with no SDV, but potential outs for nuts.

Are you studying tournament strategies specifically? If your goal is to win a tournament, then you should focus on videos/books/articles/practice that will directly help you with tournaments.

If you're not winning, you should be studying at least as much as or more than you are playing. That's what I tend to do and so far I'm winning at the microstakes. But it's still over a small sample size so I can't be so sure yet. I love doing tons of hand reviews and doing all the math out as to what may or may not be profitable in each situation

Mostly by grinding like a maniac for years and years playing more hands than anyone on earth. But things are much different today. Now there are many good training materials that can help you progress faster. I still believe experience is #1 though.

I also studied a lot of materials watching training videos and even signed up for online poker lessons, but now I play a lot of freerolls and not expensive tournaments and sometimes I win but not much money, I need to practice and study the game, make fewer mistakes we make earlier and even in some moments you need to discard good cards so as not to lose all the chips or money in the cash game !

Watched a lot of games online and played as many games as possible. Sometimes i find losing helps you become a better player, it teaches you what not to do

Gaming practice is the most effective way to develop your poker skills. And one of the important moments in the study of poker is the self - analysis of your game and strategy (or you can discuss on the Cardschat forum).

In the first place you need to be patient.
It is important to play every day. And every day you have to improve your skills.
Regular training and discipline will allow you to become a successful player.
Good luck.

Two ways

First I read a book called The Psychology of Poker. It really helped me to identify with what type of player I wanted to be.....tight aggressive. It was very unnatural for me to play this style at first but with practice it became easier. The other thing was gaining patience. Waiting for the right hand or situation to push. I think that lead me to be a better poker p layer to.

I'm still on the way to improve my game, come to the so-called a game! And ways to improve generally known-reading books about poker, analysis of the hands played, viewing inputs from professionals, etc.! And to improve I think it is very important to analyze the hands played and understanding your mistakes, read or seen from the video to implement at the tables!

One book, a couple articles, some videos or a session of coaching will not get you there. You need to be studying daily and figure out what other profitable players are doing. Since April 1st I've read 5 books and I'm halfway through my 6th. I've watched hundreds of hand analysis, hundreds of cash games and tournaments on pokergo, read countless articles and played nearly everyday. Every time I go back and read or watch something again I pick up something I miss. You've never learned enough. Pros talk to pros about strategies, they watch videos from other pros. There is so much they're doing to be profitable and keep up with the changes in the game.

Watching alot of poker on TV wsop in the summer and poker after the dark when it came on. Now taking the game more seriously; studying consists of this site, twitch streamers, a lot of hand videos Doug Polk and those guys, and just alot of analysis and putting folks on ranges is so important

I believe that if you win a poker tournament there are many variables, the more experience you have in face-to-face tournaments, the better your performance will be. Whenever you play live tournaments you will come across people with very different styles of what you have seen, so what you need to have to be able to stand out and get the prize home is to play with caution and always be able to build a good pot at the beginning of the tournament because you can be more confident and lose that fear of the more aggressive players. Often players try to get inside your head to make you weaker and go in weaker hands than normal, so you need to be very calm, when you manage to knock down these aggressive players, you will build a moral at the table and they will respect and play more cautiously. I have not been able to win any live tournament yet, but we are in the daily struggle for knowledge.

I think most everyone is going to say. 1. Study the game. Videos, books and paying close attention to everyone playing on your table. Understand ranges of hands and position play and you'll improve your game. 2. Converse with other players here or people you know that are better and ask questions. 3. Play at smaller stakes to start until you are winning. Move up in stakes only when your BR is fat enough. 4. Play, Play, Play!!! Experience is the best teacher. 5. Be patient! Rome wasn't built in a day!

By paying close attention to how the other players play. Watching the winners and the losers. Trying to emulate the winners.
