re: Poker & How successful is this play?
"60% of the time it works every time"
J/K. But as Bwammo said, if I have a playable hand based on others' calling range, then I am shoving rather than just 3-4xing it. While it is certainly a profitable play to be picking up dead chips, unfortunately, if you are the BB and 3x it, you are going to get called a lot more often then you would like by one of the limpers. Now you are OOP with a pretty big pot, making it very difficult, and expensive, to play your hand when you you miss. I typically use a 20% rule: In general, if I am going to play a pot and the pot equals at least 20% of my stack, I will just shove it in. This rule often comes in handy when limpers or antes are involved.
