Call sir. The pot is so small to steal by raising.

yeh I would limp along and try to hit your set for sure. As hff mentioned, a raise here is only likely to win you the 180 in the middle & if your called you'll be playing a large pot oop against (possibly) multiple opponents who are likely to have overcards to your 8's, which don't play great against their calling ranges post flop. If you hit your set however in a multiway pot, expect to be paid off!! Despite your terrible position. It's funny ....because I read about almost this exact situation in a book called winning poker tournaments one hand at a time vol 1. I think it was the very first hand in the book actually where Pearl Jammer is in a similar dilemma to this with pocket 10's. Now ask yourself how you would play it vs multiple opponents first to act if you hit your golden 8 on the flop ;)

I call by set value. The pot is small we are in the Early Game and you can hit a set and extract a lot of chips from your oponents

what is your cutoff

Some people would play 7-7 and up here.
Personally, I would play it as a get it in cheap and if you get re-raised or miss the flop... it's cheap and inexpensive way to disguise your trips.
A 3bet might be sufficient to take it down and that be your desired goal.
So to build my stack the quickest, I would call then.

Red devil hit the nail on the head.
I agree with everything here, and all the reasons why.

I would call him and hope to see an 8 on the flop. Since it's only 40 at this time, you could always raise and assume most people will call. I generally only play the 8's if I hit a third before I am raised out.

call not assume risks, on the other hand another movement you would assume more risks could give a greater amount of fchas
