I was playing 6-max turbo, play money. Everyone limped (5 people) and I was on the button. I had 89s. I would usually raise 3bb to steal the blinds or if called than I have a chance of flush/straight. This time I limped because everyone else did, I saw there was no reason to raise? If I hit the flush/straight I raise, if I miss its an easy fold. Good or bad strategy?

If a table is loose, you have to play tighter.
If a table is tight, you should play looser.

Most tables go through periods of each, its your job to realize when and be proactive. You can show a bluff and tip the table one way or the other.

At that table, you can call or fold there, anything else is wrong.

You are quite right! With tight and particulary passiv players is good loos game! I think, that call on button was wrong strategy...

The call was fine. Raising u could put urself in some trouble, cause u don't have a very strong hand, but one that could easily turn into a monster.

They gave u incredible odds to call, 89s can make a very large combination of hands. If u miss, easy fold.

Folding there is fine too, if u're low on bbs. Raising is not an option.

well for me theres only 2 options while on the button you either raise or fold-just calling can lead to trouble with that hand-i heard it said you need a better hand to call with than to raise with -i think if your going to play 8-9 you cant just call with it it can def lead to trouble post flop

you are playing play money. If you raise you will get a couple of callers for sure, position, but this being play money ppl dont like folding, so i would rather see a cheap flop hoping to hit big and have some of the customers with a marginal hand pay for it.

This hand u're playing for straight or flush. raising is not an option. If u think that way, ur option is to fold it, which is a very viable option too.

Since 5 people limped, it is really difficult to fold them with 3bb raise... i think the best option is to flat call and hit the flush or straight.

89s on the button

If you raise there you are thinning the field but still have at least one caller more than likely, and an unnecessarily bloated pot. Calling, I believe is the right option with that many limpers in the hand. The pot is going to be good enough if you hit your hand to be able to get paid a worthy amount, and as you said, if you don't hit then it is an easy fold.
