How often do you reach the prizezone in tournaments (not turbo, hyper, shortstacked)? I think strong player must at least do it in a half times. But I get the money quite seldom, unfortunately. What percentage of getting cash might be the sign of a really good play?

ITM one out of two tournaments is asking a lot especially if its MTT. I would say ITM 20-25% of the time is the sign of a consistently profitable player.

I hit ITM quite a lot, probably over 50% of the games. The bad thing is that 99% of those times is only mincash. I know it must be some leak in my middle phase game which I am trying to figure out and solve. Btw I am mostly playing turbo tournaments, micro stakes.

I'm not going to dive into the 50% you mention.
The 99% however gives an indication.
With the little info I have it's up to you to find out if I'm right, but it seems to me you play way to tight when blinds go up, try to get into the money by avoiding any risk and getting blinded down to a shortstack close to the bubble.

Stealing some more pots by raising / 3-betting a tad lighter could get you in the right direction.

You have to be lucky twice to be ITM. Meaning, to reach at the end phase, you have to accept gambles like flips at the early/middle phase. Good for you if at those times, it favors you.

If you go to the website officialpokerrankings.com and look at the leaderboards, the top ranked players finish in the money around 18-20%. I doubt anybody is finishing in the money in MTTs 50% of the time.

well you explain that to get cash as the bubble have to be a passive player, yet aggressive. And to have that come and defend the bubble because that is where all prey on the weak ..

It's strange how perception is quite different than reality. I admit I was wrong with my perception as I checked the numbers and I'm only 24% ITM during 2015.
I am more close with the second figure, where I final tabled 4% of my ITM games (tournaments only, no SNG considered). So I cash frequently but the good prizes are very scarce.
I do have a very good play in the early phase, but this changes drammatically when the blinds are higher as compared to my stack size.

You describe exactly what happens: I do avoid risks and get blinded out.
I will follow your suggestion. Thanks for the input :top:

That depends on the number of players, who participate in the tournament and on the payout structure. But I also don't think, that someone is capable to be 50% of the time itm in a mtt. It's more important to run deep, when you get itm, then how often you get itm.

Not all always depends on you. There are different times when you play like-would be good but everything is going against you.

really depends on the field size, its easier to have a high itm% when playing smaller fields for obv reasons.

As for me, I'm playing not so long. I held prizes plases only in low-cost tournaments. The best achievement is 2nd place in a freeroll for the Ukrainians at the poker MIRA. Lots of times, got 50 prizes plases in the 888poker countries battle. Soon I want to play around $ 10 tournaments. That is to say: risk is justified. Look at what I can do.

This is very interesting because I see the same people cash over and over and sometimes multiple times in one night. I often wonder what the norm is, I usually cash in something about 1 out of every 7 tournaments that I play.. Not that good. I am interested if other people know what the norm is??

Cashing in 50% of the MTT's you play is completely ludicrous lol. Even the best tournament players in the world probably cash at most 15-20% of the time. There is a ton of variance in mtt's, so most of the time you will be leaving empty handed, even if you're a young wizard.
