i dont play very many tournamnets on fulltilt poker. i play most ring games and some sng's, but i do occasionally play in the daily double or the midnight madness. I don't play much tournamnets simply because i find it hard to cash. I have acutally made positive funds through turnys but i just dont like how i usually do not cash.

My question is how often can one expect to cash? it seems they usually pay the top 10%. how often would a really good player cash? 30%? 50%?

It is hard to cash in tournaments. But the reward is much greater if you win.

Personally in low $$ tournaments I do decent. Higher paying tournaments I dont do as well.

I never seem to do well in mtt's. Not sure I have the patience/concentration/skill, so as with the previous poster, I tend to avoid them. I did win a $30.00 limit tourney once (which I'd entered by mistake - I don't like limit).

I do well in 6 player sng's - as in my BR is up - but don't know what %age of times.

well if ur cashing in 30% to 50% of ur tournaments, ur a freakin god
looking at stats of online pros it is more in the range of 13% to 21% ITM
so if ur around that range u must be doing something right
but it is not all about how often u cash, there are other factors like ROI and size of cash and things like that that factor in ur profitability

checking on my stats i have an ITM of about 14% over a few sites

sng

What helps me in SNG and playing at the last table on freerolls is sitting down and playing headsup.Dont play it for big money, but do it for practice.
On your question,I will win(or place great) 2-3-4 times in a row, then its a week or two dry spell,no matter how many I play.I dont know why this is,but its my pattern for some reason.

Unofrtunately, I haven't kept records up until a week or so ago and I had never finished ITM in a MTT un til this week. In the past I played a lot of Sng's and entered a lot of MTT's but never did well. Since joining the site and doing a lot of studying I now keep better records but still need to improve. In the past week I've entered 4 MTT's and cashed in 2 of them, come out slightly ahead in my ring games and lost a few SnG's. Overall, I started the week down fto $15 from $65 and now am back up to $33.49.
From what I have read and seen it seems that if you are cashing in 15-20% or the tourns you enter you are doing pretty damn well.

I have been playing for about 2 years but I never deposited any money at any site. I had not been keeping track of my games before this year.
I start my bankrolls on a site with freerolls then use the earnings to play micro stakes.
Since the beginning of 2008 I played in 110 tourneys (mixture of S&G, MTT & freerolls) on various sites.
The total buy-ins + fees was $67.55, my net earnigs was $27.58 for an ROI of slightly less than 41%.
I have not yet reached $100 BR at any site.

Is that good (I guess it can't be bad since its all pure profit) or is it statistically non-significant because it barely covers 2 months?

Go to www.officalpokerrankings.com it will show your stats for most sites. Currectly I am only 12% ITM out of 57 tournaments. Not very good, but not very bad. I was up at 17% until the past 3 weeks when I've done badly.

Now keep in mind a friend of mine ITM's at 12%. Although he is a pro poker player. So you'd think he doesn't do very well, but he is already up $106,000+ on the year (2008). Last year he brought in $466,000+. All of this doesn't include live poker or cash games. He cashed $95,000 in the Foxwoods Megastack last month. Obvs he's really good. I'll be honest though watching him play the only thing he does better than me or the average player is get away from a hand he doesn't think he can win and he plays WAY more than the average person. Averaging over 2000 tournaments per year.

Official Poker Rankings says that I am ITM 18% of the time, 29/164 games. In 2008 so far though I am at 21% 17/80, so I'm getting better.

On OPR, for PokerStars, I am at 22% ITM.
Unless Im wrong, I dont think OPR tracks freerolls and I know Ive placed in a few. So, that may or may not increase my ITM percentage.

personally i believe mine is around the 20% range. tourneys and sng's seem to be my strength because everyone starts equal. but i'm still at low limits so its easier to cash. but since i am at low limits the cash tables tear me up because of the ruthless aggression. so i break even over the course of the three.

Haven't kept any records asI've only done MTT's as part of my bankroll for only about 3 weeks, but I'd say that I've cashed in half of them, but only once was I not short stacked enough to actually make a play for the final table and a good cash. I was about 9th out of 35 and was all in after the flop (Q72) with AQ, where the chip leader had 77. To take that hand down would of given me the chip lead.

Oh ya I wanted to mention that I believe your ROI (Return On Investment) is probably much more important than ITM%.

I have only played in 8 tourneys at poker stars, but I have cashed in half of them, so currently I sit at 50%. I know I will probably fall of pace eventually, but I don't think cashing half the time is at all unfathomable! What is though is actually winning any money! I could easily cash about half the time and only winback my buy in, but what's the point? I would say more important than percentage of cashes is the ammount you win when you do cash! But, hey don't hate on me because I say it is possible, I turned my $5 free at PS into $156 in a few weeks. I would love to play bigger tourneys, but I HATE all the turbo tourneys!!!! Steer clear unless your only chance at winning is an all in shot in the dark!

Check out official poker rankings - its free!!!

Hi.

Over the last 120 days I have been in the money around 19-22% according to this site in MTT.

I play pokerstars and partypoker. These stats do stand up to my own stats.

BrentD2250%? WOW - Just look yourself up on ORP. The best pro's only do around low 20% area.25-02-2008 10:32 PM

So I must be slightly better than the best pro :D
